Alt-Tab in PR crashes PR

Post by lbgspam »

BF2 1.5
PR latest
Vista 64
6gb
8200 quad
Nvidia 9800 GT

When I try to alt-tab out of BF2 during the game, the game completely crashes. Any ideas?

(I did search this forum and found https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr-support/66727-bf2-1-5-alt-tab-fix-through-renddx9-dll.html which doesn't seem to be what I am trying to fix.

Thanks!

The game completely crashes meaning that once you alt-tab out, the game executable completely disappears? Install the hotfix, if you haven't, then delete your cache folders in My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache.

Check your graphics settings. You should have all the 3D settings in the nVidia control panel set to "application controlled." Also make sure that you are not using the target to set the resolution. Remove that if you are, and use the in-game graphics options to set the correct resolution.

If it still doesn't fix the problem, you may have one or more of three issues: you have a corrupt version of Windows, Battlefield 2, Project Reality or a combination of all three (try reinstalling Project Reality and Battlefield 2), you have a driver issue (download the latest nVidia drivers here: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers), or you have a hardware incompatibility that simply does not allow alt-tabbing (highly unlikely).

Thanks for the reply. When I alt-tab out of PR and then try to return to PR, BF2/PR crashes when I try to return. This used to work prior to 1.5, after 1.5 started getting this issue.

Currently, I am using the latest versions of everything (brand new Vista install). The above thread I referenced doesn't seem to be about the problem I am having..

lbgspam, get your fix here -

Battlefield 2 - v1.50 Patch Alt-Tab Hotfix - gameupdates.org

or here -

Battlefield 2 v1.50 Patch Alt Tab Hotfix Download - FileShack - Download PC Video game patches, videos, betas and trailers for PC, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii

You have to have BF 1.5 installed. If it doesn't work, maybe your best bet might be to reinstall everything in order from PR 0.86? Hope this helps! :-)

Thanks for the info. Well, since this is a completely new install (including OS), I can't believe that would fix it! :(
Hope the patch fixes it :)
