Hey everybody,

Today I'm going to show you how to make new seats in the bf2 editor.
For the ones that aren't use too it, make a BACKUP of your files your going to mod.

part 1
How do you backup? Go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2 copy the Objects_server and Objects_client

Make a new folder in here:C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\ called backup, and past the files there! done!

Are you an advanced modder? skip to part 7

part 2

What do we need?

1. Battlefield 2

2. BF2 Editor Battlefield 2 Editor v1.3

3. winrar find the English version on the page, and download. (It's a package program, It makes large files small)

So lets start with the setup:

Tip:read good (especially for beginners)

part 3

First you want to go to:C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2

You'll find Objects_server and Objects_client

Make a new folder called Objects (with big letter O)

Now extract Objects_server and Objects_client in the Objects folder, so the Editor can read it.

We do this because the editor can only read EXTRACTED content.

When you did that, go back to your bf2 folder, RIGHT click on the Objects folder and UNcheck the read only box.

If you get a message if you want to apply that to all the underlying folders, press yes.

Play time is over  , or not.. :d rool:

Now we just begin!!!

part 4

Now it's time to work with pictures! ;)

Oke.. lets open up the editor...
Image

You'll get a window with names, just click bf2. (DON'T BE MAD, CAUSE I DON'T HAVE AIX, I tried several times to download, but the servers are too slow.. ;(. )

It will load, be patient, if you won't,

and try to shut down the editor, it will never work.. just wait..

part 5

When the editor is done loading, you'll get this screen:
Image

In the next steps, I'll show you how to set it all up

Here is the next step...
Image

And the last one, for setup...

Image

If your done with that, we'll go to some more advanced things!

part 6

Oke.. just follow the pictures. If you don't understand the first picture, scroll to the second
Image

Heres the second!
Image

part 7

Oke, now we got the vehicle in place!

Now theres coming a bunch of pictures! Prepare.....

from now It's all about making a new seat! ;)

Follow the pictures.

Some explanation: You can choose every seat animation you want, like you got the co-pilot anim. or the hmmwv passenger anim. But some won't look good on your vehicle!

Thanks grandmaster, this tutorial is very useful, but I still have some doubts about seat creation that this tutorial does not cover. First, if anyone could help, I would like to know how to edit the soldier's position inside the vehicle (as in, stretch out his arms, make him sit in a different way, etc). Also, when I followed this tutorial, the HUD did not indicate the new seat. So, I have to edit the HUD separately, but I don't know how to do it. Many thanks for any help :D

I'm very glad you guys like it! :D
I like to explane things clear, cause I found the problem myself with some other tutorials that they weren't very clear.

Oke, Colibri.
This is more a basic tutorial, but I'll try to help you out.
First off, could you please be a bit more specific about changing soldier position in the vehicle?
I have a small tip: if you don't know which seat is best for you, the best way to find out, is simple;

What you want to do; example: if you want an animation for you vehicle where someone for example sits up, and carry's his own weapon. You just open some vehicles in the editor, You enter all seats, and watch which one looks the most like you want. If you know which one you want, you just follow my tut.
If you want to change the amount of rotation, you can just tweak that in the object editor. I'm not sure how to, hard to explane, but I guess you'll find out!

Sorry, I don't know how to fix the hud. ;P
uhmm.. you could make you custom 3d player animation in 3ds max, but.. that's where you need skills for.. and I have animation skills. ;D

Hope this helped a little.
Thanks everyone for the nice comment!

Hi, awesome tutorial, works like a charm, also maybe you could do some other tutorials, e.g. how to change weapon models on vehicles, like change the hummves 50 cal into a minigun, or remove parts from the models, like doors and stuff, add parts, like another weapon to an existing model?

Very cool.

On a related topic, has anyone ever monkeyed with using multiple vehicle meshes to get more than eight seats?

EDIT - *Becomes sad upon realizing it's an old thread*

EDIT ON THE EDIT - *Becomes sadder upon realizing that the "related topic" thing can't be done*

I personally wouldn't advise coding in this fashion and to do it manually instead as the editor can screw up the code more than it fixes it if your not very careful.
