Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
Hi eveyrone, in the PR forums!
I'm currently having a big pain-in-the-*** problem with PR. Everytime i load in a server i get CTD without getting any reason.
It usually crashes right after reaching 100% (veryfing client data?), or maybe 1 or 2 minutes into the game.
Is there any solution on this problem? I've turned down the graphics to low (except 1680x1050 <---).
My specs;
4Gb DDR2
500GB Samsung Spinpoint
8800 GTS
Core 2 Quad Q6600
Windows 7 x64 bit NO
Samsung Syncmaster 2253bw (22")
Creative X-FI Fatal1ty Edition
The funny thing is, i've been playing on Training servers for hours without problems, but when i decide to go on a live srv. it crashes.

I'm playing PR on Win7 x64 for nearly a month - its not a _general_ Win7 problem.

Then what on earth is causing it?.

The sniper rifle isn't the problem.. Its the guy firing it.

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
A known CTD-fix is to decrease texture-quality and/or clear bf2-cache (Documents -> Battlefield 2 -> mods -> bf2 -> cache).

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
This is not an OS issue (this problem was also happening on winXP) this is an issue with missing files after installation. I had bought and downloaded the Bf2 complete collection and installed it (this is when it was working) and it all worked fine then i formatted 1 partition of my HD to do a clean install of windows and I did not re-download bf2, i just used the package i had already downloaded. this is what caused the problems, you have to re-download the package and unpack it and shit every time you want to install the game. OR save the downloaded file in a separate directory and just unlock/extract them with EA downloader each time you install. the install seems to miss files if you don't unlock and install through EA downloader each time
the file structure you download is different after its unlocked/extracted. you can only install from an extract package once. after the one install, using the extracted files to install again will cause this problem of insta-crash when trying to play MP

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
So, this means that i have to download Bf2 complete shit again from EA downloadmanager, then install it (with boosterpacks etc.), then install core, levels and at the end the patch?
1. Download fresh Bf2 from EADM
2. Install Bf2 with booster packs etc.
3. Patch Bf2
4. Install Core
5. Install Levels.
6. Install the PR patch?

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
That is correct apart from number 6.
You dont need the patch if your downloading the core and levels 0.87.
CTD on PR is mainly due to Settings eg. Textures, AA or your Rez.
Turn settings down and give it more trys, its not Windows 7 OS many ppl have win 7 and dont have any problems.
1. Install original BF2
2. Patch BF2 (current patch 1.5)
3. Download & Install PR 0.87 Core
4. Download & Install PR 0.87 Levels
5. Update Punkbuster etc and play!
Good luck

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
Hello,
I have the same Problem! Forgotten Hope 2 doesn't work also, but vBF2 does!
Specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Gigabyte EP43-S3L
Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
4096MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Nvidia GeForce GTX 285
Does it help to reinstall even if I don't downloaded BF2 with EADM, it's all boxed! I don't get it because I made a clean install of Win7 and then I installed BF2 all the way you already described... execpt that I patch PR with 0860 and 0870...
Edit: Turning all grahpics down doesn't help and btw I don't get a error message when in windowed mode
Ouh an it MUST be Win7... because I had Vista before it and I only got CTD problems after instaling Win7!

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
you cant just patch and then expect PR to work
you need the Core & leves 0.87

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
So I'm trying to patch up from 0.85, have installed BF2, 1.41, 1.5, Alt tab fixer & core & levels for 0.85, all working, you saying that I cant just use the 0.86 patch and then the 0.87 patch?
I have to have the 0.87 core files?
Well I tried patching to 0.86 and its loading but comes up a message PR detects you do not have 1.41 installed?

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
If you bought the game through EA online and are having problems this is what I would suggest
1. uninstall and delete everything (including your downloaded files that are by default stored in C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache)
2. re-download bf2 and unlock/extract/install through EADM and reboot after installation
3. patch to 1.41
4. patch to 1.5
5. install .874 core
6. install .874 levels
and then you should be good to go
the above steps worked for my problem of instant crashing when I tried to join a multi-player server. these steps may fix some other problems, who knows for sure. but always make sure you have latest drivers installed etc...

Same here, but with AA off it runs without any flaw. Latest drivers and so on for W7.

Re: Win7 CTD on load (or right after)
If what you are saying is correct, then the file download of the patch is completely pointless!Mad-Mike wrote:you cant just patch and then expect PR to work

You are talking rubbish...
This happens often with me too, but on Vista 32 bit.
I think its a BF2 1.5 problem.
