I have a similar problem that I tracked to my nVidia drivers. You are ATI though, so maybe it's how the driver works with the 64 bit Win7. Apparently this stutter is only on 64 bit versions. Do other graphical games have the same problem?

Well, if you are playing online sometimes you get "lag" or maybe you have a virus in your computer...

I had similar problems running high settings with just 2GB RAM on vista.
Bought another 2GB RAM and.. no more problems.
Try lowering some settings to cut your RAM usage and see if that helps.

Only 2 gigs?
Try AMD Fusion for Gaming
It shuts down unneeded background services to free up ram and cpu cycles.
Works wonders for me and it's FREE
Ram is cheep. Buy more if you can!
Good luck

Re: Freezes Every 30-40 secs
I have the exact same problem.
It appears to be a caching problem as Windows 7 seems to take up quite a bit of ram as opposed to XP.
In my case over 800mb for system files, and added with tools and things I use, it's over a gig. PR uses well over a gigabyte of ram to run properly as well, so the excess is defaulted to the swap file/virtual memory which seems to cause hiccups when new sounds/models need to be loaded. Swap is bad when an insurgents pops around the corner mkay?
Standing in the middle of the map and simply turning kills my system because of the swapping, causing a hiccup where the system is catching up. It's not good for gameplay.
Currently I have 2gb of ram which is too little. I've ordered 4gb more which should keep my system running for a little while until I can scrounge the money for a decent upgrade.
That AMD fusion thing is quite neat, unfortunately it kills off my firewall which goes into protected mode disallowing any network traffic, which isn't all that helpful for online gaming.

Just restart your firewall after fusion starts. I do the same for WidescreenFixer, Teamspeak and xfire.
H0tthings,
Have you tried typing this line in your in the BF2 console (default ~) when you join a server: pb_sleep 500
More information about pb_sleep command found here: Punkbuster BF2 Information
