Command Assets Think "World in Conflict"

First let me preamble by saying that I hope that this mod is made for teamwork with an emphasis on reality. My suggestion is only here to place it in the *** thread and to offer some ideas (Hopefully fresh) to make the commander a much more enjoyable and wanted position.

I just read the BSS USI update here and I was wondering if we could actually add or implement air strikes manned by AI that are visible by all players. Think about:

- A Helicopter Strike by AI

- A JDAM precision strike by an F-18 or any plane (Preferably a B-52) by AI so the bomb doesn't just appear and perhaps even have it on station for 10 minutes with 2-4 bombs sort of like a seriously heavy UAV and let it come back every hour or two.

- And why not Commander requested AI resupply back at the base for more vehicles or assets to be dropped in at Kashan or simply to roll in from the haze of off map purgatory (Because spawning is just so realistic.) For the purpose of supplementing or replacing the current spawning system. Click here for Clarification

Take it and work with it. If you dont like these Ideas, tell me why otherwise keep it to yourself

I don't like the AI resupply because it takes away the duties of somebody that actually does it in our PR PC world

That isn't resupply as in a crate, it is resupply as in Tanks and planes and various other assets for the team.

Let me be very clear, Leave logistics to the team and leave assets to the AI.

Okay then ..

No i think i would want someone in my squad bringing up assets then and doing what's needed to be done under my direction .. weather flying a plane / chopper or vehicle..

NO!!!

Instead of spawning in they either roll or fly in from off map and then are ready to use by a player...Instead of popping up from out of no where.

Helicopter air strikes via AI, better to have players doing it.

AI jet dropping JDAM, idea has popped up before and this has been possible for ages (the first strike mod recoded the vBF2 UAV to drop bombs etc, vid: Airstrike For BF2 - Video) but not something we really plan to look into.

Vehicles being dropped off and resupply via AI, can't see how that could work, unless maybe you had a 100% strait rode, no bumps etc leading to the point where you wanted your vehicle to come in it then could maybe work but a lot of time and trouble even then for very little gain.

I guess I was hoping for a last resort, in which a commander can save the day by calling in a a quick and precise air strike against an oncoming horde of enemy armor. This is for teams without teamwork or crappy pilot, and who knows it could keep an awesome game rolling. But I guess they deserve to lose.

Well dang. I was hoping for a B-52 the size of 20 pixels to fly over and drop a real bomb instead of those silly spawn in explosions. But hey, In the Dev's we trust.

I guess I just need to learn more about how the PRSP DEVs make it happen. Again, It just seems more elegant than spawning.

Aircraft dropping JDAM munitions are usually flying at around 20-30 THOUSAND feet altitude. So you'd be looking more at ONE pixel and not 20. You usually can't even see aircraft operating at that altitude, so I don't see a point in adding a visual to PR for it.


And remember that for every AI attack, you are taking roles away from the players. Some roles, such as that of heavy artillery for example, are best left to AI control. But tasks such as using attack aircraft should be left to the players. The only time I personally support using AI-controlled assets is when it would be unrealistic or unfeasible due to game limitations to have players controlling the same equipment.


The method of resupplying new vehicles from off-map "drive-in" spawning doesn't sound like a bad idea, but as Rhino stated it would take a ton of effort to make it work right. And in the end, the amount of work needed could be used towards something more important.
