[?] about exporting?

Post by Hauteclocque »

Hi,
I'm trying to learn how to export weapons in bf2. (only weapons at the moment, vehicles really seem to be hard to do.)
I'm at the first stages of learning.
I have looked for tutorials on the forum, but there are none.
So I will ask you few questions, hope that will help others.
I have read a French tutorial about exporting, but many steps were not explained...

I hardly understood the use of dummy objects. However I know how to link them together. For weapons, I have understood that with all the parts of the gun (which are numbered 1,2,3, etc...) there are three or four other objects (dummies):
-geom0
-lod0
-root_bundledmesh_weaponname.
-and sometimes lod1

(I took the MINIMI for example, if I can't show it in 3DSMAX, remove the picture link.)

In the French tutorial, the exporter only said that we have to make three boxes and rename them with geom0,lod0 and root_bundl...then to link them.
But looking at the way the MINIMI has been exported I think it's not the good way to make dummies objects. The root dummy doesn't look to be a box at all...

If someone could help me, it would be much appreciated. :-?

for export hierarchies you can look here(warning:image heavy)
3ds/gmax Model Hierarchy Collection (56k Warning) - Official BF Editor Forums

also it might worth exporting as simple staticmesh to get used to it

Bump !
I've exported the FAMAS (not for PR use, UVs and textures are not done yet), but I can't run it in BF2 editor...
I've set up it like in Rhino's tut, I can load PR kits and weapons, but I can't load the FAMAS in the animation editor, it is not visible on the left list and I don't know why...
And when I try to load it with the ressources button I can see in the error screen :

Code: Select all

[Console] : File already loaded: "objects/weapons/handheld/frrif_famasf1iron/frrif_famasf1iron.con"
If someone could help me...

zip up and post here the files you've been working with. (not your exports)

Here are the files :
4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download frrif_famasf1iron.rar
I've added the sounds and the textures files of our former FAMAS, but I did not added them in the bundlemesh since I'm not interested in exporting it to PR yet, it's just for test and training. :-P

Really weird, when I export the files, the hierarchy becomes this : (I know all the parts of the gun don't need to be in the lod1, I will see that later) :

Instead of this :

just call the main mesh (mesh1_fp_whateverblahblah) under each LOD "__GenericFireArm", no more no less. Also put in a dummy geo0 lod1, just make a plane and parent it to the geo0 lod1. Otherwise you'll be exporting simpleobjects, of which you don't want.

Great success
Well, the scale is not good and the orientation too, but the gun is here !
Thank you so much Chuc !

Hum, sorry for the triple post, but :
I succeed in rescaling the gun and setting a good direction, but there are some issues in the bf2 editor, I guess it's due to animations.
1p view, rather fine :

But there are flying parts with the 3P view...

Don't worry about flying parts as they can be fixed by animations. Just make sure the scale is all good.

Also something to consider, remember that the 3p mesh usually is 87% smaller than the 1p mesh.

Good to know. :-)

Thank you again.

I guess the FAMAS is placed a bit too much at the left cause the standard position for the hands was done for another gun.

I have understood why the gun was not placed in soldier hands...I have not centered it well...
So here is another issue : I try to center the body with the different parts but without moving the parts to the center, but I can't...
When I click on center to pivot (while the parts are linked to the gun) here is what I have :
Image

PS : I'm not a 3DModeller, don't be puzzled if I don't know how to do that whereas I'm exporting a gun...

You can't centre the pivots to each individual part, just have pivots all centralised.

It works now (don't take care of the waring, I forgot to remove the collision mesh line in the .tweak) :

(just few issues, but they can be fixed later with the animations)
