Hello folks, there is my problem:
I had a x1950gt 512 mb with 2 gb ram and i've a e6750 CPU, game was running fine (even it's a ram eater) on Win 7 ultimate x64. I've bought 1 gb more RAM, and game was running fine too.
Then i've bought a HD 4890, it's mounted and running fine (crysis, Arma2, etc). But when i start PR, i get black screen, it makes a couple flashes and then goes back to desktop like i never started it. No errors, nothing.
Any idea?
Regards

check. It seems that there are problems with DirectX. Error message is:
Debug assertion failed!
Version: xxx
Module: RendDX9
File:
c:\...\RendDX9\VideoOptions.cpp
Line:234
Text: Unknown DynamicOption value 6Samples
Current confile: (this is empty)
And then goes to desktop.

You may need to use a 3 party drive cleaner/remover to make 100% sure your old drivers aren't causing errors.
Here are a few other things you can try.
Reinstall DirectX
Set the textures to medium in game.
I'm not sure why this makes a difference with high-end cards that can run games like Crysis
on high quality settings with no problem at the same res,
but for some reason it can matter in Project Reality.
Run battlefield cleaner
If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files
Still no joy?
Turn off AA
or
Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.
Delete the original BF2 folder from your DOCUMENTS folder.
OK, let's rule out corrupt preference files with the steps below.
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
Good luck

Negatoy. 0 cache files flund.
Turn off AA
how? game is not running and under CCC is at "use application settings"
Trash your BF2 cache files
no luck.
Delete the original BF2 folder from your DOCUMENTS folder.

re: Game not running after new video card/fixed!
The error means it doesn't like 6xAA... Probably because the card doesn't support it, and supports 8xAA instead?
Open Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/000x/Video.con in Notepad or a similar text edit program.
(where 000x is your profile number as shown in the order of the login screen, 0001 being the first in the list)
Change:
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 6Samples
to
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 8Samples
Save file, and start Project Reality.
Alternative is to:
- Delete the Documents/Battlefield 2
- Start Battlefield 2 (note, not PR, v0.874 pr.exe will crash if it can't find Documents/Battlefield 2, v0.9 fixes this)
- Retrieve your profile
- Exit Battlefield 2 after you've logged in
- Start Project Reality
- Set all your options and stuff
- Play

re: Game not running after new video card/fixed!
Yes, it worked. I just checked on the CCC and goes x2 x4 x8. But changing only the 0001 profile gave me the same error. So i changed also the default folder one. I guess that before loading my profile, it was loading before the default one. Right supposition, game started.
Thanks for the support

Good to hear
, pretty simple error message, tells you exactly what the problem is
It doesn't like 6Samples, which is 6xAA.
