Closest thing I found was "Karengal" lat and long off a wiki article on the battle. It puts the location for that area in a seriously mountainous area that "as the crow flies" is all of 18 and a half miles from the Pakistani border in Koner Provence.
Am I right? Also, have you guys ever used google's elevation maps in that area for mapping?
34° 52' 56N, 70° 53' 56E
Maps, Weather, and Airports for Karangal, Afghanistan
Where is Korengal exactly?

about the south east of Afghanistan bordering with Pakistan. If you get deployed there it isnt a "low intensity conflict" for your platoon. Daily attacks sometimes several times a day.

Yeah you have it right. And since this ties in with my major I'll add:
The Korengal Valley is in Kunar province, which is a place made up almost completely by ethnic Pashtunis. Pashtunis are the ethnic group were Taliban is most popular. Pashtunis live in the south and eastern regions of Afghanistan as well as the northern borders of Pakistan. They speak Pashto, unlike the rest of Afghanistan which speaks a dialect of Fahrsi called Dari.
Kunar is also a hotbed of insurgent activity to say the least. The majority of American forces and almost all special forces are stationed in the region. It's even believed Osama Bin Laden is hiding in the area.
There you go. A little lesson for you all. Free of charge. Tuition is high enough as is =P
