PR wont load up to the menu.... ***FIXED!***

Post by mightymints »

Hey all, I just built a new PC, but cant get PR to load.

BF2 works perfectly on 1.50, no problems.

I install the PR files as normal, and then when I try and start, the blacksand logo starts to appear, and then just freezes. Then I have to reset the PC, as nothing else will respond.

PC is:
Windows 7 home premium
GFX card sapphire 5850
CPU intel i7 2.8
8GB corsair ddr3 ram
No problems running other games.

Any ideas? Ive tried reinstalling it.

Update on this, I seem to be able to play if i remove all the .bnk files from the game. Infact it seems bnk files are making my pc crash on any game. Any ideas? I would really love some help here.

If your having trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files and disable the movies.

You might check your Video.con files too:
The problem maybe something is telling BF2 to load a resolution that your monitor or video card doesn't support. In my case it was my new widescreen LCD.

That "something" is actually 3 files in the "C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" directory. In that Profiles directory are 3 folders called 0001, 0002, and Default. Inside each of those 3 folders is a file called Video.con. You need to open each of those 3 Video.con files and search for the line that says "VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@75Hz". Change all 3 files to a resolution & refresh rate that you know the monitor and video card support, and BF2 should work like a champ again.
Check that the AA is set right as well.
Good luck

The video.com can be edited with notepad and should look like this:

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1600x1200@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

This shows my res @ 1600x1200@60Hz
Most LEDs (older ones) need to be 60Hz or less
My AA is turned off.

Good luck

Yeah this isnt the problem really, its definitely something to do with my pc and bnk files. its doing it on games like dirt 2 as well. A few others are having the problem I am having too.
We think its something to do with windows 7 x64 and .bnk videos, or ati drivers. Ill keep yall updated though.

Sounds like W7 shipped with a few less video codecs.
Maybe you can find them here:
Free-Codecs.com :: Download latest audio codecs, video codecs ..

Good luck

It was the damn Bios! I updated it from f3 to f8 and its all fixed. Months of problems. I should have just done that to start with. To make things better i also got a 50% fps boost!
