Make the RPG be more feared

Post by Meza82 »

I have never shot an RPG (but Ive fired rifles) but from videos and the amount of explosives it uses, IMHO it would be more realistic for the RPG to have much louder more powerful sound when fired and explodes on impact; and should cause more damage and at a longer diameter.

souce: LiveLeak.com - Kata'ib Hezbollah in Iraq(Hezbollah brigades):RPG attack vs American guarding tower in AL-Amn AL-Amma in Baghdad 8/10/2007

In game the RPG does not feel destructive enough.
An easy and realistic change, IMHO. What do you think?

I think its ok as it is. A bigger blast would be nice but probably over poweri9ng.

Since when did they start using HD cameras over there?

I think the destructive power could be raised slightly and the explosion effect slightly bigger. Maybe a little darker if anything.

Larger blast radius is not going to happen on the HEAT rounds. The anti-personnel rounds for the RPG only have a casualty radius of 7 meters. For the HEAT rounds it's estimated at about 4m taking into account secondary projectiles from an impact. Which is how it is in-game.

Seriously? I never knew the exact performace of RPG7 round by number but 7 meter for anti personell? That sounds too small. Is all 7 meter radius rated as catastrophic injury or its not effective if target is outside of 7 meter radius? There is usually levels of blast radius that cause different injury when looking at performace.

As far as video looks, it only reenforces me to think current RPG7 depictions, all firing sound, power, accuracy, and effect is depicted as close as it could be. I even give 4 stars out of 5 for RPG7 in this mod. If not for strange deviation and little more effect on RPG firing blast I give 5 star. Maybe most well depicted arsenal in this mod.

In real life (video) when the RPG round hit the building, it seems to me that blast went into building and blew out the windows and shock wave dusted off the dusty outer surface of building. Thats why it looks bit more "blasty" than in game.

P.S. When I was typing this reply I came up with question, is word Hitted a correct English word? Whats the past for word Hit?

Attach a prefix to it IE,

It hit it

The car was hit

etc.

Yep, I was amazed, too. But the sources list 150m2 as the casualty area, and for a circle that equals a 7m radius. But those fragments are supposedly able to defeat body armor at that range.

standard HEAT round for RPG do not have huge injuring radius, reading through books about soviet-a-stan war, it was said that, winter clothes can stop most of shrapnel of it when you're 5m away from explosion. Shrapnel from RPG itself wasn't very deadly, but fragments of cliffs, concrete etc. were, i.e. soldiers fired above MG-nest to cause stone falls. Chechens tied trotyl(TNT) bricks to standard grenades in some cases, to increase their effectiveness in causing stonefalls
imo one of the proofs that HEAT round wasnt the best at producing shrapnel is development and fielding of OG-7V

but still, HEAT round is extensively used against personnel

wow...

First of all, it's 4 seconds max.

Second of all, that video gives absolutely no indication of how far away the shooter is from the building. The impact is clearly filmed by a camera that is much further away.

Third of all, go to page 12 of this document.

That's not the same type of RPG as in Game. People have had RPGs land right next to them and be fine, or just wounded.

Thats right, between him going prone bringing up the launcher and fiering the rocket I counted 7 seconds. I think the settle time for rpg is 4 sec. .

Was somebody in the tower at the time ?

It's from the DTIC (The Defense Technical Information Center) website. It's a TRADOC (US Army Training and Doctrine Command) study bulletin that was done in the 70's. Back then, it was top priority for them to learn and know everything about the capabilities of Soviet weaponry. Nowadays, it gives guys like me a very good reference for game design :)
