VOIP only servers?
Will it get to the point where anyone without voip would be continously be kicked from squads until the game is unplayable for them? ... maybe leading to all new, successful, voip only servers?

I've plenty of people without VoiP Play successfully. It'd be a shame to shun people who don't have a mic, and maybe can't get their hands on one, from the PR community.

I personally kick people from my squads if they do not have microphones, especially if we're crewing vehicles.
It's just important.
And also, I find that more often then not, those with microphones that talk to you will follow your orders better.

Re: VOIP only servers?
Just to hear some views on this, i was quite worried that overtime without a mic I would become completley sidelined in the game till the point it wouldn't be worth playing.killonsight95 wrote:whats the need in this thread?
Nice to hear this actually, sometimes I find people without mic's actaully communicating more than those with them.. and also sooo annoying that the ps3 bluetooth headset is not compatible with my pc.Herbiie wrote:I've plenty of people without VoiP Play successfully. Re: VOIP only servers?
That's a bit harsh - sometimes I'm unable to use my Mic when I'm playing because my dad is asleep or w.e - and if your squad doesn't have the word "Voip" in the title then it's really harsh to kick people without VoIP - it helps, but isn't needed. If you think it is needed then you need to work on your communication skillsStartrekern wrote:I personally kick people from my squads if they do not have microphones, especially if we're crewing vehicles.

Is this really that much of an issue in PR? In vBF, sure, but in PR almost everyone has a mic.

Considering how terrible your mic is, I'd not be belittling others were I in your shoesStartrekern wrote:I personally kick people from my squads if they do not have microphones, especially if we're crewing vehicles.

Also, for any heavy vehicle, having voice is pretty essential, but I have met players who are capable of communicating on a level playing field with what I can only assume are macros. Or extra hands.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

I love Mumble and Voip only servers. Not that I want to play there all the time, but when I do feel like some good communication its great to go there. Tactical Gamer and the now dormant Reality Teamwork comes to mind as servers where voip is/was good.

People don't write "Tank VOIP" or "CAS VOIP" in their squad names because it is assumed that if you want to pilot a vehicle that only respawns every 20-30 minutes that you have a mic.

Re: VOIP only servers?
I've seen drivers (Not gunners tbh) who use squad chat because they are unable to use VoiP for w.e reason who have been all over the place in their APC/Tank doing an excellent job. It's hard yes - but there are people out there who can do it (I'm not one of themboilerrat wrote:People don't write "Tank VOIP" or "CAS VOIP" in their squad names because it is assumed that if you want to pilot a vehicle that only respawns every 20-30 minutes that you have a mic.

I tried to pilot the cobra for a guy who didn't have a mic. It really sucked. Not having a mic is just too cumbersome in a vehicle.

No mic players can basically do everything that a non-mic player can, except some of the more difficult vehicle combat, like attack helis. As squad leaders, you should keep a glancing eye on the chat text and respond to their requests and comments (just because he doesnt have mic it doesnt mean he cant hear you).
In tanks, the gunner should have mic while the driver can be a no mic player. This way, the gunner can instruct the driver to take proper firing positions and warn him. The gunner gives orders where to go and when, etc.

Yer totally agree, the most important thing during tank communication or apc's for that matter is the gunner saying STOP quickly 9this is where i have to admit VOIP is essential). Other than that the driver doesn't really need to say much to the gunner. With the exception of directing the gunner to enemy- often i find this more concise if the bearing is written down in squad chat rather than a mumbled number over voip.Bellator wrote:No mic players can basically do everything that a non-mic player can, except some of the more difficult vehicle combat, like attack helis. I've had good and bad days with mic less players. For me it comes down to if you as a mic less player can still play well then I dont kick.

I dont like when ppl dont have a mic... Why is it so hard to get one? if you can afford a pc, an internet connection, a game, food...
hell i've seen $10 plantronics mics recently...
Just bothers me that they think since they dont have a mic they dont have to call out compass bearings on enemies
Not to say that ppl w/ mics are instantly better, some ppl need to buy new ones or take it out of their mouth or stop screaming or stop attempting to be funny when they're not or stop telling me about what happened 3000m away from my pos. theres a time for chatting and a time for important info only on the battlefield... oh the internet

Re: VOIP only servers?
I really prefer the driver have a mic because everyone in a vehicle squad needs to be keeping their eyes open for AT and a driver that spots targets for the gunner is vital. I've had responsive non-VOIP players but we often end up losing a vehicle because their text was overlooked. Of course one clever thing is to use the commo rose voice commands (like affirmative and negative) to draw attention to text...crazyivan wrote:Yer totally agree, the most important thing during tank communication or apc's for that matter is the gunner saying STOP quickly 9this is where i have to admit VOIP is essential). I prefer to ignore text chat when squad leading as much as possible because with the commander/mumble/squad member audio all going at once text is one thing I can ignore. Instead I usually designate someone to relay text messages of importance to me through VOIP as a filter and I also sometimes do the same with the SL chat channel in mumble if it is overused.
I haven't ever kicked anyone for not having a mic, only for not being responsive to audio/move and attack type markers. I've played with many non-VOIP players, or speakers of other languages that I could not talk to directly but were solid team players if communicated with in an alternate way.

Re: VOIP only servers?
How do you even play this game without mic? Money can't be issue to get one that's for sure. They are cheap. No need to be shy, it's just a game. Your gaming experience is much more immersive with proper communications too. What's your excuse?
Now if we could have mumble with easy to use shortcuts that connects us to the right server and side, communications in this game would be perfect.

Same here. And it's always an opportunity to have a micless player in a decent squad see how much MORE fun it is to squad with others who have a mic...giveing each other **** and stuff like that..

Re: VOIP only servers?
One of the best players I ever played didn`t hv a mic. And yea, we played INF and crewed vehicles like abrams, challenger 2 and bradleys.
