MEC quad cannons

Post by Sprats »

Well for me, it is very annoying when MEC quad cannon puts a lot of smoke after you fire few shots, making you to see nothing. So i was wondering, maybe a some kind of sight or small zoom could be added to it? Because now, for example a chopper is flying fast and you start firing at it, thats it, you dont see it, you missed.

Yeah I used to notice that on higher settings a lot, firing a decent length burst would just rape my FPS and I would not be able to use it at all effectively.

Try firing in short bursts, letting the smoke dissapate between bursts before re-acquiring target.

Omg it's lyftaker :D (This is deviant :o )

Also, back on topic.. the quad cannon is a barrel of rape at the moment. Zoom would make it even more deadly, so lets just leave it the way it is.

I played AA gunner in the quadgun on barracuda today. The smoke is not such a big problem unless the heli moves directly away from you since you move the gun around otherwise to track the helicopter, thus avoiding the smoke cloud. What bugs me is how weak the gun is. A huey flew right towards me and I hit it 4-5 times and it didnt start to smoke from what I saw, c´mon this is a big *** gun here and its not so easy to hit without any form of sight. To my knowledge 4-5 hits from 23mm HE shells at is not very healthy and we also have to consider that helis move about three times as fast as IRL, so this guns definitely needs some improvements.

Edit: Mixed up the zpu 14.5mm gun with the zsu-23mm. So whats ingame is 14.5mm right?

Adding a zoom would just make the cannons used on infantry at range more.

Maybe if the cannon was on top of a hill. The cannons are placed in spots where not many inf come.

On Jabal any Infantry on the back of the dam or on the bridges can be shot by the Quad Cannons.

Yes but its out of visual range, only by directed BVR or luck are you going to kill anyone.

sorry rampo93 i havent said all of my minds and posted a post.. Anyways smoke needs to be reduced for sure, as somebody mentioned, it is hard to hit something moving fast. It makes to much smoke and if you burst fire there aint gonna be any use of the cannon then. Its already hard to hit chopper moving fast with innaccurate cannon and smoke in front of you. So please DEVs, think about this, merry christmas everyone! ;o porn.

well if you look at the cannon you will notice a compensator/break on the end... in real life a break is used to reduce muzzle rise but it penalizes the shooter by giving the weapon extreme muzzle flash/smoke and noise, also if you keep on shooting for longer periods of time, a larger round, which for example is used to gun down aircraft, the smoke made from gunpowder will also not have anywhere to escape from except the front of the weapon itself and not the ejection ports.... on real cannons this tends to happen a lot. So if the devs were to fix this it would hinder real life effects.... also those cannons are very old dated back to the soviet era of weaponry which mainly focused on quantity and not quality so there isn't much one could do (in real life) to not hinder themselves of the smoke from the muzzle. That is one of the many reasons the US and most NATO countries do not used "machine gun" type projectiles to down enemy aircraft, mainly anti air missiles.

I think it is to compensate for its incredible damage and the fact that it does NOT overheat.

It's not, go on the gun on the left with 100% view distance on and you can see the bridge clearly, one on the right you can see the dam.

maybe but the Rate of Fire from the gun should insure that any skilled gunner can easily take down a huey.

not very good comparison, Tunguska have twice larger calibre and twice higher RoF(or even more if ZPU do not fire all its barrels at same time, and its apparently dont)

I wanted to ask, can such a weapon take out something more armored, like an apc? I remember pointing one of these at an APC on Jabal recently, and the thing just took the shells, looked at me, and took me out with 3 rounds.
