Post by USMC scout sniper »

I have a new problem. After 10 minuter of play maybe 20 my whole computer shits down.Absolutely no error message.Just randomly shuts down for no apparent reason. It runs PERFECTLY until the first 10 to 20 minutes. If somebody knows how to fix this that would be awesome. ;-) :D The computer also does this for every other game I have on it.

If it was a driver/kernel error that shut the machine down you would usually see a BSOD (or similar) , even if only for a split second.

Computer just switching off for no reason, is usually down to a heat problem. Could be your fan on the CPU is clogged ... or even become unseated.

Run a diagnostics program on your motherboard though before trying DIY fixes though, and see what the temperatures monitor.

Is that your idle temp?

How high is it when in game? (Alt+Tab to find out)

There should be more than a 3 degree increase, but that isn't high enough to cause an automatic system shutdown. Unless your bios is set to shutdown at 60c, which the lowest my bios goes is 70c.

Just to be safe, clean your computer out! After you do that (or mom/gf do it) let me know if there was any change in temp reading.

I had a big problem with dust. My comp kept shutting off unexpectedly and I wasn't sure why, so I downloaded a temperature program and found that my computer idled at 50c. In game it went up to 70c, sometimes higher. I took my computer apart and the inside was unbelievably dusty. I cleaned everything real nice like, put it all together and turned it on. Now the idle temp is 30-32c and in game is around 45c.

Not only is my computer happy, but my wife is too since the fan isn't always running at the highest rpm possible.

EDIT: Im actually shocked that an old video card driver would shut the entire system down without warning. Maybe freeze up, but to shut down...?
