So, my microphone has never worked, and I know it isn't the mic itself, since I've gone through almost four of the damn things, so I'm pretty sure it's something wrong with my soundcard. I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, and I've looked all over for a solution.
So, when I talk into the mic on the windows recording thing, nothing happens. When I play a youtube video, it shows that it can hear me. When I'm on ventrilo and I press the button and talk, nothing happens. When I press the button and fire a gun, everyone can hear it (and it was pretty hilarious).
I haven't been able to find anything about this, and I'm sure all of my drivers are up to date. I'm almost to the point of just yanking the sound card out and trying it that way.
Mic doesn't work, only plays back sounds.

Your mic input is set to "what your hear" ie when you press your mic key the input into your mic is the same as whats coming out of your speakers. For example if you are playing music and press your mic key every one on voip will hear the music. What you need to do is look for the setting for your mic in/out put and set it to record not play through. Im not familiar with the drivers software you have but i had the same issue with a free sound recording software when I wanted to record some music to put over a video I could set the record channel (mic) to record what was coming out of my speakers. If i didnt set it back to record voice then every one on the team speak i was in would hear my game and not me.
