Nvidia 190+ Drivers 8800 Series PR Freezes

Ok, so the title is confusing, BASICALLY:

I've been forced to update my video drivers for my Nvidia 8800 GTS from driver 169.21 to driver 196.21(190.38 was also tried, but had similar problems) to try out the bfbc2 beta. I would love to keep these drivers, so only at a last resort would I revert back to 169.21. After I updated and played PR, I would recieve intermittant freezes. Sounds would loop and usually I would simply "lose connection to the server" and rejoin. However sometimes it freezes all together with the sound looping constantly; not even my G15 task manager responding. Both of these problems need to stop; I can't reliably use assets or help my team when I randomly freeze. Just before I posted this I lost the a10 due to this very problem.
For clarification, I NEVER had freezing issues with 169.21 drivers. I play on MEDIUM graphics and I intend to also stay on medium graphics. There is something else wrong here. PR is the only game that has this issue, so I bring my question here.
