PR 90% walking 10% fighting
hello all new player to game, but not to being a soldier.
******** how can i make a vote? would like to get some views on this******
I Been playing a while now(but still new to game) and one thing comes accross, i relise this isnt a military sim, nor is it trying to be realism purely but as i been told it just trying to improve BF2.
One thing which seems to come up in most of my voice chats to guys in game is the walking involved and the size of some maps in relation to what you doing.
I relise there are trucks and armour to transport you must it pretty much a fact you going to be walking 80+% of the time in the game as a infi-man, issue i find is the distances in game seem at time un realistic and rather strange.
Biggest issue i find being talked about is the amount of walking you end up doing in game and the wasted time spent walking around at a very slow speed ini relation to the huge maps and distances between fights.
I relise this isnt realism military sim but it would be usefull to increase the defualt walking pace or increase the amount of "sprint" you can do or increase the recharge/recovery rate of sprint
Bassically the biggest chat people tend to come up with and i tend to agree is:
This game is 90% walking 10% actually getting into a fight.
Considering how easy it is to die it can be fustrating walking for a very long time 10+mins seems to be the avg distance of walking around doing very little, then get shot and having to walk some more.
Just thing the game needs to be sped up a little to make it more enjoyable rather than dull at a lot of times spent doing something that you really dont want to be doing in a game.
If i want to yomp 10k with sack i can do that myself.

As many of PR masters advised: Go back you may to BF2 anytime to be a Rambo!

1 thing, never listen to the 'big chat people' as most of them have no clue what they are on about and just ramble about complete shit, thats like asking rl advice from people at /b/
secondly, how is the size of the map going to relate to the walk/ sprint speed? just because the map is bigger doesnt mean that you magically going to be faster....
and you say its unrealistic? do you actually have any source to back up that infantry have transport for every 100m or so? additionally in bf2, you are moving much faster than you would in rl
and if you are having to walk 10mins or so after each death, organize your team, get some FB up and DEFEND THEM rather than ploppin 1 down and fuckin off to go die in a pointless situation...
no transport? take the initiative, take control, organize transport etc etc

I agree, do you really think being in a warzone is 99% fighting and 1% is laying down some sweet one-liner?alberto_di_gio wrote:What you think it happens in reality?

What you should do is walk that 90% of your time to a good spot. Ambush, flank, and win that firefight. It will feel like a real win, not like a bf2 win.
If you don't like walking, join up with squads and ask for transport. But don't be a **** about it, don't call for APC transport when there are tanks and HAT nearby. Don't call for helicopter transport when there is a fuckton of .50 cal whizzing around. Or you could just play with vehicles some more.
But if you are that sort of person who kills about as many times as you die, and you die each minute, really rethink this. Bf2 might be your game.

That's quite a feedback, isn't it?
But to respond to your whining I will quote what someone said someone on this forum:
But to respond to your whining I will quote what someone said someone on this forum:
I'm starting to see a trend here and I've been trying to put my finger on it. Because honestly, PR on paper sounds like a really boring game and yet I've been struggling for the last two months to rationalize why I am so addicted to it. It finally dawned on me after reading all of your guys' posts. Everyone says this game is intense, but why is it so intense? I mean sometimes you're running around the map for like 10 or 15 minutes before you even see an enemy and that doesn't even guarantee that you'll engage the enemy, especially if it's disadvantageous to do so. So what gives? Well, I think that's what it is right there, the waiting. That's what makes it so intense, because it builds up the anticipation for action, so when the action finally arrives, it is nothing short of heart-pounding. And if you die, yeah it sucks to have to respawn hundreds of meters away from it all and have to make it back, but that is also what makes it awesome. This is the reason why other games become boring and repetitive, because in other games, you just spawn and run around and kill someone or get killed and then respawn and do it all over again, which gets old fast. So the next time you guys are slowly creeping your way to the front lines in PR and you're getting tired of crawling through some forest, take a moment to savoy it, because it might get intense real quick. I know I will.

Walking in a game isn't particularly fun, but there are transport assets for your team to utilize. If they are wasted there is consequences.

Give the new guy some slack guys, he is actually interested enough to get on this forum and talk about something he sees as a problem.
He cannot know we have debated all his points and ideas to the finetuned excellence that is 0.9 today. Movement and run speed, map size and transportation is the key to maps in PR.
"At the right place, at the right time" is ever true of any situation and certainly advantage goes to the team that can outmaneuver the enemy. Through whatever means. Transports are even more important in 0.9

People without imagination, consideration and plain lacking any *ation makes me question Gods Great plan.

Re: PR 90% walking 10% fighting
I suppose we should have a good half an hour where we have to go for rest and relaxation before we're allowed to play another battle before spending 10 minutes to do some after action reports too? You guys that say "eeer reality! duuuuurp!" should really just go sign up since your so obsessive. Just because someone mentions an issue like this doesn't mean they want the game to play out like unreal tournament ffs.alberto_di_gio wrote:What you think it happens in reality?

Anyway, you may well have just played a few bad rounds without much teamwork, on a good server there will be transport and APC squads to keep the walking down. A few minutes of walking between engagements are to be expected and they're part of the combat, but walking a kilometre every time you spawn just to find any action is a little excessive. Transport seems to be more plentiful but I'm not convinced it's quite plentiful enough for .9 gameplay without rallies and such.
Also what happened to people getting bollocked for useless posts?

Re: PR 90% walking 10% fighting
War = 95% walking, 5% fighting
Sometimes you just have bad rounds and you end up walking from the base to the frontline and get killed right away because all your team's copters or APCs were destroyed. Work as a team and have more fun using less time to travel.

Re: PR 90% walking 10% fighting
From what I've heard about going to Afghanistan for real, is that it's 90% sitting in your fob or base, 9% going for a patrol, 1% action.
If PR was anything like this, no one would play it, it's fine how it is.
Anyway, you will find that some maps have more focused fighting than the others, such as the map that is now Isreal V Hamas used to be Britain, the fighting is very focused, I was playing as Hamas and Isreal never got through the first point at the Barn area, I killed like 3 APC's, It was very fun focused fighting, but that is a 1km map.

I once walked across Fools Road and ended up with the best squad of the round, I don't mind walking.

I must say the amount of walking and the amount of fun is totally dependant on what squad your in. It is always much more fun to walk round with the full squad, and always very dull to walk around on your own. So join up in a squad and enjoy the walk
, get chatting and preparing what your going to do when you get there. Also the walk time can be decreased with competent firebase/hideout builders =].

If you get shot...you have your squad, your medic around.. if you have a good squad you wont even get shot.
There isnt a lot of walking really, more like a lot of waiting, but it pays off in the end.

Re: PR 90% walking 10% fighting
I really don't appreciate the tone some of our members have used to answer a new member. PR isn't some elitist sect where people must abide by its motto or gtfo. We are here to welcome people who are interested in evolving in there gameplay & been patient ... to be patient
But I also thank the other users who have given more pondered answers.
And on a side not, please use the 'report a post function (top right of each post) rather then just post your thought that it might or not be the proper place/ content/ suggestion etc.
For the rest I'm locking this thread as I believe proper answers have been given to the question & as this will otherwise become a "suggestion/feedback" thread. Which are for the time being closed because of 0.9 being still fresh out of the oven.
And welcome to the forums ! Don't hesitate in pming a moderator with any questions you might have.
