This is a fix that works for me when I have connected to a map and am playing and have been playing for like 10 minutes or so and then it kicks me back to the DEPLOYMENT screen with a window reading "Connection to sever lost" this also fixes a problem when I crash to the desktop..
In order to apply this fix do 3 things in the following order:
1) Delete your Temporary Internet Files
2) Do the STICKY: "Problems with Punkbuster? Solutions here" - this is by RDEV fuzzhead
It is located under the PR Support Area of the forums.
3) Manually install Punkbuster.
I have to apply this fix evertime I do a clean install of (reinstall of PR) or when I install a PR update. such as the PR v.09 Below I will explain how to do steps 1 2 and 3
Deleter Your Temporary Internet Files
Open \ Start Microsoft Internet explorer - click on TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS located at the bottom of this drop down menu. Click on the GENERAL TAB located at top left of this Internet options window. Then Under BROWSING HISTORY click on SETTINGS then click on VIEW FILES. Nest click on EDIT at the top left and then on SELECT ALL - This highlights all the files in this directory. You should notice that you are in the Temporary Internet Files Directory. I am using the word Directory instead of Folder cause I have been pcing for years. Ok now once all these files are highlighted click on the DELETE key on your keyboard. Do not hold down the SHIFT key and then the DELETE key or you will not be able to recover these deleted files if needed. Ok more than likely you will not be able to delete all the files no problem.. if it only deletes some of them you will get a message saying the file or files it can not delete. Whe this happens click on EDIT and then Select all again. You have at this point more than likely deleted a lot of these temp file. now the second time you highlight them by clicking on Edit and Select all hold down the CONTROL key once they are highlighted and then click on each file that it told you it was unable to delete. once you have done this press the DELETE key again. This will enable you to delete most everyone of these files. In order to generate the names of the files you can not delete if you need this info again simply highlight all the files in this directory and press the delete key.
Ok now what has happened among other things is that when you go to a website you may have to reenter anypasswords you may have saved for various sites but it also gets rid of a lot of junk that can conflict with PR .. And since your a dedicated warrior it is worth it to reenter some pass words. Ok now on to the 2nd step ..
Do the Sticky: Problems with punkbuster? Solutions here
Ok just go find this stick and follow it exactly once you have done all of this .. do the reboots and everything .... do the last and final step 3 below. I suggest not doing step 9 until you've tried this fix first "Step 9) If all that didnt work, some advanced additional steps can be followed here:" do step 9 if this fix doesn't work..
Manually Install Punkbuster
For many of my PR buddies manually installing punkbuster solves a lot of pr issues probably because we have different ports open and or closed in our different routers and firewalls etc. from pc to pc. But anyway do the following to do the manual install of Punkbuster:
Go to this web link:
PunkBuster Online Countermeasures
It is evenbalance.com
then click on Battlefield 2 forget the server and client links next to Battlefield 2 .. Just click on Battlefield 2 link.
OK now find where it reads "Software Updates" click on the underlined Downloadlink
Ok now near the top of all of this text it reads: PunkBuster (BF2) Security Files
READ what to do here it tells you to Right click on the appropriate link so Right Click on FOR PLAYERS since you are a player not a server. RIGHT CLICK do not Left click .. what you are going to do is to MANUALLY SAVE a file to the correct place on your computer. Read the instructions where to save it. your saving it to the pb folder where PR is.
Oh your almost done .. after you have saved this file .. it is the pbsec.htm file to your pb folder you do the next and last step ... (in the event when you save this file to the pb folder and it asks you if you want to overrite it say YES) Make sure you save this to the pb folder this is the latest update of this file.
Ok now read below this .. it reads "PunkBuster (BF2) Player Client Files"
RIGHT CLICK on the appropriate files here and save them to your PB\HTM folder. htm is a sub folder located within your pb folder. Make sure you save the 2 needed files. for example, if your using Windows xp or whatever you would save the two WIN32 files. You do this the same way you saved the file above. RIGHT CLICK on the first PB client win 32 file save to pb\htm then click on the 2nd PB client win 32 file. Overrite if it asks you to do so.
Ok your done that was simple wasn't it .. now don't forget how to do this you may need to do it again sometime. Reboot if your in the mood..
This should fix some particular connection problems with pr it has for me for about 3 or 4 different versions.. The next time you see me I'll probably need a revive or a patch cause im bleeding out .. Thanks ..
