Hi,
I was happily running PR v0.8 (whatever the last version of that was) and when v0.9 came out I downloaded and installed only to find most of the time when I logged onto either an internet game or a local co-op, the game crashes while loading a map.
So, my system settings shouldn't be a problem right? They hadn't changed before installing v0.9.
Any ideas??
Love the game - best BF2 mod - but fast losing interest through hours reading the forums, loading & crashing, loading & crashing and trying to find a fix for this. . .
Cheers, Bootcmon

Re: PRv0.8 fine - PRv09 crashes when loading maps
since you are reading the forum for hours you might have figured that there are already alot of threads about the crash issue and also about the particular crash on map load
i am amaized that your asking whether settings could be responsible, when half the threads we ask for them
join one of those threads and please: what we ask of others we ask of you too, post specs, history, what you have tried etc.
i am tired of asking the same questions over and over again
btw: there is also a search button and google crawls this site too
personally i don't think you read a single thread

Welcome Bootcmon,
When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.
#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.
#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or GOOGLE IT!. Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.
#3. Please remember to include your basic PC info in your post
You have spent some time trying to help yourself, but your ready to ask for help:
Please include your basic PC info in your post :
Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card, type of monitor
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.
The more info you can give the better your chance of getting a quick answer back.
You don't have to write a book,
but your basic PC info is needed to help you.
Good luck

Re: PRv0.8 fine - PRv09 crashes when loading maps
Well, it seems like this is a common problem and as such, should have a common solution.
I didn't quote system specs because as I said, 8 was running absolutely fine before I installed 9 - and I'm sorry, I didn't know it was a rule.
So, what's the most common fix - I'd put money on that being the solution.
Sorry you're frustrated, but it's frustrating for the end consumer as well.
17" MacBook Pro
3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT
Running Windows 7 on BootCamp for Project Reality
Thanks very much for your help.
Cheers, Bootcmon

Re: PRv0.8 fine - PRv09 crashes when loading maps
Bootcmon, Posting specks isn't a rule, it just helps us help you.
I can't blame you for not wanting to disclose your running PR on....
Ack! a Mac!
( Don't get me wrong I love my Mac!)
The way some PC fanboys eyes cross while working up a hissy fit and
want to argue what O/S is better just muddies the water
getting you no closer to getting back in the game!
But you know there's a lot of different hardware out there, running a lot of different software that doesn't always play nice together, so we ask.
I suggest you start by running battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files
Next
Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.
Still CTD?
Repeat steps above and try:
Turning down some settings:
textures to medium
lower lighting and/or shadows
Bump up your VR ( 1.5 x real ram = 6144)
Add a fast USB thump drive(2 gigs+) I think W7 still uses 'readyboost'
Defrag HD
Still CTD?
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
Check out tweakguides too.
They have screen shots of the different settings.
You have W7 with BF2 and PR running as 'Admin' without XP compatibility mode correct?
Post back if anything works or you need more advice.
Good luck
