Iron sights and scopes

Post by Varkbrak »

I've noticed that the iron sights and scoped weapons take the same amount of time to settle. Why is this?

Because weapons dont shoot themselves. YOU shoot with them so YOU settle down your breathing and aim control.

In the previous version, it took about 5 seconds for a scoped weapon to settle and an iron sight took 1 second. Why are the values the same now? Both, iron sights and scoped, weapons take 4 seconds to settle.

well because of the same reason that volks said, you shoot the weapon. Its different because the devs realised that.

Indeed, but I think it would be harder to aim properly with a scope than an iron sight. So that difference between iron sight and scope made sense for me.

P.S: I'm an iron sight addict  .

That was never the case.

They have always taken the same amount of time to settle, scope in times are different ofc but settle time isn't. The settle times and deviation system have been modified heavily for 0.9, but the times have always been equal for scoped and iron sight versions of each individual weapon.

Exactly how is it harder to aim properly with a scope than irons?

i dunno if settle time is what he means, do you mean the time it takes between right clicking and being able to shoot again?

Actualy, it's not. Aiming properly with an iron sight is much harder than scope, but aiming properly with red dot is easier.

... i just like iron sight

I was also an iron sights addict, but since both, iron sights and scoped, takes the same amount of time to settle the scoped weapon seems to be a better choice now as you can use it in close quarters battles. That just breaks my heart.

@Jigsaw: You might be right, but in the previous version it was possible to drop onto your belly and start shooting immediately and kill the bloke in front of you. (With iron sights) Now it is not possible, cause you have to wait 4 seconds in order to kill him. :(

Scopes have never been harder to aim. It's all about cheekweld.

Anyhow, I think that scopes should have reduced max deviation though, because it's a bit unrealistic to aim at one place with the scope reticle, and have it hit at the bottom of the BDC ladder.

This is exactly what the DEVs do not want.

You only get that by instaproning and firing immediately or shooting too fast...

I never play without one.

I am right :)

Being able to drop onto your belly and inta-kill an enemy was removed in 0.9 for a reason. It is called prone spam and is shockingly unrealistic to be able to accomplish, hence its removal. It is a good thing that it is gone.

Pro tip: crouch and shoot instead of proning. If you go prone deviation will shoot right up as you say and you will spray all over the place. Crouch and your deviation will be affected only by your recent movements using WASD, meaning you should be more accurate. If you are using iron sights then you will be sighted in quicker than any enemy with a scope, so you have an advantage there.

Firing immediately yes, but even if you fire immediately in a reflex optic, it appears a lot more accurate. With scoped optics, your mistake is magnified maybe 4 times, so it feels a lot worse, even if not quantifiably less accurate.

Yeah I know. That is an old tip, but good none the less. Coming to a dead stop and aiming has the same effect aswell.
