Mumble suggestion

Post by sweedensniiperr »

We all want it to behave different, one/two channel. But since we're all on the same server why couldn't we have both? What I'm suggesting doesn't seem so hard to fix, although I'm quite unsure in mumble capabilities.
What I'm suggesting:
Mumble one channel w/ two channels (lol idk what to call it)
You're in your team but but with the add off an extra button you can talk to enemies.

EXAMPLE KEYS, (I chosed to use three keys, i don't know about others preferences)
X:Mumble the whole server, including your team (one channel)
Y:Mumble on your team( two channel)
Z:sl channel

So now you can taunt enemies and talk to blue guys without fearing to be discovered. :)

I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting. Is it that you don't like that nearby enemies can overhear the conversations you have with your teammates ?

currently there is 2 systems:

1: talk friendly but enemy hear. (1 channel system)
2: talk to team, but enemy dose not hear. (2 channel system)

Hes suggesting 2 channels separating the teams so you can talk to your team mates without the enemy hearing, but with a 3rd key bind option to talk to players in the other team channel.

I think it should just be 1 channel where enemy can hear you and teammates can hear you just like in RL

this way you can sneak up on people or just listen on their conversation

wouldn't it be cool to talk to them while they are looking for you?

There are numerous threads about this so ill keep it breif;

Neither current system is realistic, yes IRL u can hear the enemy but you can also whisper and use hand signals unlike in game. Also for gameplay some like it 2 channels (TG, PMC).

If this suggestion is possible, i would like to see it implemented and left to server admins if they use it or not.

In-game you can whisper... use teamchat and squad VOIP too. Typing on chat wouldn't be much longer than pointing out an enemy position...
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

You can whisper but this "whispering" is still audible at the maximum range through all kind of obstacles. It's maybe less noisy but you can still hear it at the same range of a loud scream.

I don't want to point out obvious flaws in this system but do you really think that teamchat would be more realistic?

whispering doesn't help, team chat is slow (if ur whispering, the enemy is near) and if ur using mumble they are probably in another squad.

don't worry mate, sometimes its hard to find some stuff

I'd be happy with an option to talk to the enemy, maybe even go further and make a 70-100m radius for talking to everyone and only a 0-60m radius for talking to friends to make it more interesting.

It would be lovely to have all we want in Mumble:

Auto team switching
Auto SL channel switching
Third button all players on positional
3D sound not 2D that we have (ever spoke to a heli way above you?)
Accounts tied to PR (to eliminate the cretins who change name for spamming)
One channel at the end of round (I switch to see how the OPFOR got on)??

seeing that PR/ARMA is using TS3 probably not going to happen though....

I searched for 'Mumble' in the suggestion section. ;) Only because I could remember this being suggested. :p

yea isnt it already setup that way??
... lol except you DONT want to talk Foce center to the enemy that would be horrible..

and if your saying talk LOCAL to enemies I had already suggested that a few weeks ago

Mumble would have to be recoded

I've never noticed that... not saying you are wrong or anything (I haven't ever tested this actually) but doesn't the whisper sound gets too much faded at long distances to be noticed, even as static?
I don't want to point out obvious flaws in this system but do you really think that teamchat would be more realistic?
I apologize for my lack of understanding. The only possible "flaw" would be that teamchat does take a little longer to type (as stated by gazzthompson) and that your buddy would have to keep an eye at the chat screen/name to see if you are the one talking...

Also, no, teamchat isn't realistic, but so is also, for example, the game engine-limitations which doesn't allow you to point out an enemy position...

There is actually a suggestion where the possibility of a squad member to put an observe marker which would vanish after 30 secs could be interesting, but afaik it is hardcoded/would overcrowd the squad's hud/wouldn't be seeable by friendly units from other squads.

gazzthompson wrote:whispering doesn't help, team chat is slow (if ur whispering, the enemy is near) and if ur using mumble they are probably in another squad.
Well, if he is close probably the other guy saw it. If not (ex. one guy popped up to see the enemy and back down) there would be 2 possibilities - the enemy saw him or not. In both occasions you just need to type quickly "5nmeNE" which COULD be understandable... If not (note the flaws I typed out after the second quote), then we need a whole new system...
