trouble starting project reality

Hi, im new to this mod and site. i used to have project reality but i think it was an older version, idk. Anyway i just got the 2 part instalation of project reality .9 i think and i finally installed it and everyhitng else it came with or reccomended. when i went to start it i first started bf2, then logged in, then went to custom games, clicked on project reality, then started it. after it exited from bf2 to go to project reality it said i needed to update my shortcut by going to cdrive,program files, ea games, bf2, mods, pr, pr.exe. so i went to the pr exe. and clicked it and it said it wasnt responding and kept closing every time i clicked on it. then i right clicked on it, went to properties, and made it windows 98 me. (i run a vista home basic and i was told to do this for most shortcuts i have and it has worked in the past for bf1942 Forgotten hope mod) after i did that it still did nothing. then i started the pr exe. as administrator. it worked. showed me all the company's and such. Then it went to the login thing so i logged in on my online account. it then stopped and said the same thing as when i did it from bf2 custom games. said i needed to update my shortcut to c drive/ prgram files/ etc. my question is what do i do to get Project Reality working for my pc. if it helps any i always run bf2 as adminstrator if im going to play online. otherwise when i log into my online account and go onto a server it stops and says cd key is invalid. i hope u guys can help me and that this information i've given u can help u solve my problem

your problem is not what we consider as a bug. please make sure to follow this template when reporting a bug in the futur.

just a small check list from me:
-are you sure you BF2 is updated to 1.5?
-you said you just installed "part 2" but you need both parts of the 0.9 installer "part 1" and "part 2"
-have you problems with BF2?
-have you problems running other BF2 mods?

ty, i wasnt able to find the support forum when i first came here but now i see it. i just dont see where u put my topic, do u think u could send me a link to it? and also to answer ur questions yes bf2 is updated to 1.5 otherwise my sandbox mod wouldnt work, i did install part 1 and 2 in order, the only problems i have with bf2 is i have to run it as administrator to play online or it will say cd key invalid if i start it up as regular rather than admin, no i dont have problems with any other mods all my mods work fine, and i did check the stickies but when i saw there saupport for my problem it was version .860 whihc i dont have and they said it came with a shortcut whihc mine doesnt. and also if it intreests u i switched the properties back to xp service pack 2 after a windows updat and it still cant be run as admin but i can click on it and play it regularly with creata local and stuff.

Are you running pr.exe as an admin as well as bf2.exe as an admin?

You should try the fix you mentioned which applies for pr.860 since the problem is similar and not all of them can be solved by the devs. If there is a sticky then it usually still applies. If it was outdated it would most likely have been removed/unstickied. So try it.

I am also under the impression that you did not actually change the short-cut as the error message suggested but you rather simply ran the pr.exe from the mods/pr-folder. It is crutial to change the short-cut's target path to use pr.exe and not bf2.exe.

not come with a shortcut as far as im conserned but i wil lreinstall it and if it doesnt i guess i'll just re-
download it. And i am running pr.exe as an admin as well as bf2.exe as an admin. it wont work when i run the pr.exe in mods folder as admin but when i dont run it as admin it works fine. And alos can somone tell me how i
can drive a helicopter or a tank? it says i need a pilots kit or a working kit to drive tanks or helicopters but i dont
know which ones are the pilots kit. and if i have to walk around and find the kit than i cant do that either, i just
cant seem to find any kits lying around.

I have a similar problem.

I downloaded PR 0.9. This is the first time I've tried to install the mod. The installation went fine and I fixed the PR shortcut problem that is documented on the forum.

When I try to launch PR.exe Windows crashed. I had to hard reset my laptop and I tried this around ten times. Then I tried launching BF2 and PR. A Dialog box appears in Win XP stating \WINDOWS\prefetch\PR.exe --1E0E7AE.pf is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.

I ran Chkdsk and it fixed a few things, but none of them was the aforementioned file. I also read I should check the checksums, tried to do that but couldn't keep the terminal to stay open.

Any ideas? I know my computer isn't really a gaming computer, but I play BF2 and even BadCompany 2 without problems.

this is totally strange, because usually administrative privilages are required - if running pr.exe from the mods folder works fine then you could just create a short cut to that file yourself and put that on the desktop.

This is due to how the game works. PR has a system which implements requestable kits. To know more about that consult the manual https://www.realitymod.com/manual/pr_manual.pdf section 5 (page 20) is all about the kit system. Please be aware that using vehicle for the first time on a live server can bring your team into big trouble if used unproperly (controls differ strongly from vBF2), try out on training/coop servers first.

Chkdsk did not repair the problematic file because it was deleted after the using process terminated.

Judging by the severe file corruption warning I assume that either Windows is corrupted or the pr installation is corrupted and should be reinstalled.

You can spawn a longer lasting terminal by calling "cmd.exe" in the "run..." dialog.

well thanks and i will do just that, as for the hole kit thing i managed to figure that out before i read it but
thanks anyway and i did try a little training in co-op, only thing i learned was never, never! put the ai's
on impossible mode in this mod, i can handle them but if they are in trucks with turrets they truly are
impossible, especially when they surround your base with those things.
