BF2 1.5 Patch cause Freezes at 'Starting Server'

Post by ADF-ARA-RAN-RAAF »

Recently I tried updating my BF2 1.41 version to play PR 0.9
I intalled the 1.5 patch (the official one) with no problems, I start up Battlefield with no problems.
When I click on a Single Player map, 'Starting Server' pops up and the whole game just freezes, the music fades away and I can still move the mouse.
This also happens when I just click the Multiplayer option on the overhead options.
I can exit the game by Ctrl-ALt-Delete and end task.

I have also made a back-up directory called 'Battlefield 2 - v1.41', strangely that folder also gets 'infected' by the freezing bug that I experience with the main Battlefield folder I install the 1.5 patch on.

All my mods for Battlefield 2 gets affected by this freezing bug as well.
I had never had a problem with Battlefield 2 before.
Is there a way I can fix this? or is there a way I can play PR v0.9 on BF2 v1.41?

try with clearing the BF2 cache: 2 approaches
1. Delete the contents (files and folders) inside "My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache"
2. Use BF2cleaner: in "Graphics Cache" section click "Cleanse Files"4

No, it is not possible to run PR on BF2 v1.41.

Are you sure you have installed 1.5 and not one of the beta releases?

Make sure you have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed.

Have your tried using/creating a different profile? I recommend using seperate profiles for each mod. This way their settings will not get mixed up. Some mod's settings can even interfere with others.

Thanks for the reply,
I have tried deleting the cache files and still the freezing problem still persists.
Also, when I did have lots of free time on my hands, I left the game in the 'Starting Server' Single Player freeze mode and after 2 hours and 35 minutes, a map was finally loaded. After waiting that 2 hours and 35 minutes I could load any map in any BF2 mod without the freeze.

The patch I have is the official final v1.50 patch.
So I'll give it another try to see where it goes...

During the freez does it show the notice about "optimizing shaders"?

Maybe your profile config files got corrupted.
  1. reset your settings to default (ingame: press "Default"-button)
  2. delete your "My Documents\Battlefield 2" folder (this will also reset your controls to default but is more agressive and likely to work)
Note: .9 installers are not Updates. These are full installs. It is recommended to remove all previous versions of PR prior to installing.

Verify that your files are not corrupted:

I suggest you use a download manager like FDM, GetRight or FlashGet or a BitTorrent client like µTorrent or Azureus. Those programs are generally able to resume interrupted downloads and this way prevent data corruption. I believe they are essential for large downloads like the pr installers. Also you can use them to "resume" the corrupted download - this might have them redownlaod only the broken bits instead of the whole thing again.

The game freezes (Single Player) when I click on the Buttom that says Start Single Player after I selected a map. A Window in the Middle of the screen comes on and says 'Starting Server' as the Menu music fades away and before the Loading Phrase begins...that's where the freeze is.

Normally that Box appears and than the map begins loading...

I used FDM to download all of the Bf2 stuff including PR, but problem is not with the PR mod

Same thing happens when I click on 'Multiplayer' on the Overhead displays, except that I don't play MP.

Tried again today.
Deleted my Battlefield 2 files in My Documents...Didn't Work
All my files are not Corrupted...
Deleted BF2 from my Hard Drive and installed a fresh copy, patched it to v1.41 than v1.50 and yet the freezing still occurs.
and everytime I end task BF2 from the Freeze, I have to restart my Computer because bf2.exe is still hanging around in running services after I end task it.

What could my problem be?

Today, I decided to install BF2 and PR v0.9on my Windows XP SP2 Computer along with the v1.5 patch and I GOT THE GAME TO LOAD!
But unfortunately, my Win XP Computer is too old to run any games :(
So is this a problem that lies with Windows 7?

IT FINALLY WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Battlefield 2 1.5 patch actual now works.

I found out I have to have an 'Active Internet Connection' to play 1.5 and not have the freeze....
So I can play v0.91 instead of v0.85
Strange???
