Shadows

Post by Gw3ck »

Well i have a little Problem:

What i say now is true for all BF - Games (PR / BF2 / SF)

http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/7843/rpgshadow.png

As you can see on this screenshot the endings of the shadows aren't straight lines there are many rough edges.

I thought i could correct this by turning on AntiAliasing...but the only thing that happend is that some textures aren't show correctly (e.g. on the Sandbags)

So, maybe anyone of you know how i can get some smooth shadows

P.S.: my current GraficCard is the GeForce GTX 260 (and the rest of the system is on an equivalent status of technique)

I have a gtx 260 myself, very sweet card.
The artifacts on the shadows are a property of the engine and how the shadows are done internally. No matter how high you turn the settings they won't be smooth, it's just one of the drawbacks of the dated bf2 engine.

I have the funky sandbag glitch myself too, it's something to do with the gtx260 drivers - I think it has been resolved in newer drivers which you can get from the nvidia website.

its been known for years, delete the folder in \Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and load a bf2 map, this will reoptimise your shaders, might not work first time, just do it a couple of times until its fixed.

so if i undertsand you irght

i schould turn on AntiAliasing (which will produce the sandbag-bug)
and then reoptimise my shaders couple of times?

or is it just working when the reason for the "sandbag-bug" isnt the AA?

the sandbag bug is just a wierd thing that happens when AA is on, but yes, you can fix it with re-optimisation.
