i'm looking for a new mobo and cpu. im currently having an athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3ghz 2mb sitting in a asus crosshair 1 = PC Perspective - Asus Crosshair nForce 590 SLI AM2 Motherboard Review. im considering this Intel® Coreâ„¢2 Quad Processor Q8300 (4M Cache, 2.50 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SLB5W, SLGUR and this ASUS P5KPL-AM SE Motherboard - Intel G31, Socket 775, µATX, Audio, Video, PCI Express, 10/100 LAN, USB 2.0, Serial ATA at TigerDirect.com
would it be a good buy, and will it be better than my current setup? that mobo is pretty cheap but the cpu is a little expensive. please give me some advice. thank you very much in advance,

IMO a Core 2 would be significantly better than an Athlon 64x2, as for the model itself well I'd recommend the E8600/E8500 unless you're actually running games/software that'll benefit a lot from a quad core.

A md quads are cheaper than intel proccesors. You could get phenom II x 4 965 black thats twice as good as that old 8200 for the same price. Well 2 dollars more on newegg.
