Mumble development
Mumble has been with us now for 1 year and in that time it has remained the same version regardless of the evolutions that the 'normal' Mumble has enjoyed.
Mumble
Although I don't know if there is now a 3D positional to solve the aircraft mumble 0.5 issues. Although I notice it has an ARMA2 plug in. The whispers feature seems to have a big potential for PR, you could have the numeric keypad giving direct comms to individual SL's.
More and more players are talking about TS3, but it's desirability seems limited without a positional feature.
We also have the 'issue' that several servers use the public mumble version.
We have also seen over the last few months the problems with mumble dropping out seem, to me, to be alot more common than before.
Are there any plans to update the PR version, or any feedback from Mumble about all the drop outs of late?
I appreciate you guys have lots of work, I'm just asking if there are any plans for the future?

Re: Mumble development
the whispers would work well if the server is only running one channel.
i would much rather have two separate channels so squads can talk together.

Jonny Have you got a translation for a Luddite available?
??:
Ankyle: I was under the impression that whispers were alternate PTT's you can set up to speak to any channel or individuals you want, so would not hinder a two channel system in any way.

What are you on about jonny? The whisper function allows you to speak directly to a preset individual or group, instead of only locally in-game or globally in the channel you're in.
I don't see how it would be useful unless the ease with which you can set up whispers is very good, but it would at least serve some functions.

TwistedHelix is the one that worked on the PR version of Mumble. There's also another contributor (forgot his nickname) that works on the BF2 plugin for mumble. I think version 1.2 caused issues with the BF2 plugin, but I'm not that sure.
I think the two main things we want to have are:
1. Muting/deafening people until they are linked and spawned in-game in certain channels.
2. Not allowing SL radio talk (force center) outside the SL channels.
There are other stuff we would like to do, like moving people around to the right channels and other more advanced stuff, but it requires a lot more work.
If we can get those 2 things working I think it would cut a lot of the issues people have with mumble.

Re: Mumble development
I use mumble alot and I find whispers interesting. The biggest problem for me as an SL is the amount of traffic on the SL channel if whispers could be set up to talk to individual squads that would drastically reduce comms traffic.
Although as Draakon says the set up time may make it not worth while (excepting clans/events/PRT), but once the squads are sorted out it wouldn't take that long to attribute a number to a corresponding SL, but if that guy leaves/disconnects or SM kick that could get annoying.
But more pressing things before this ... try to get the community on one VOIP program whichever one it ends up being.

To solve that, people should use more military style talk, like "Hitman 1, this is hitman 2, do you copy?"PLODDITHANLEY wrote:I use mumble alot and I find whispers interesting. What I actually see (or hear) is like "We need help here!"
-We who ?
-Here where ?
-Who is the target of this mensage ?
Yeah, that annoys me alot...
[R-DEV]OkitaMakoto:"Cheers, you're the man, Okita"
[R-DEV]Rhino:"I in fact got kicked from a server for tking."
Hitperson:"well done, treasure it forever."
[R-DEV]Adriaan:"Damned classy Roma, if I may say so."
[R-DEV]Chuc:"Pro man, pro." (yes, it was about me)
[R-MOD]BloodBane611:"Romagnolo, you definitely deserve a LOL award for that."

Re: Mumble development
it dose not make sense for pilots to only be able to use force center, because who wants to hear that ?
Currently when above a certain alt, mumble unlinks and they hear EVERYONE.... this needs fixing, dont know why you would want it not fixed.

Re: Mumble development
I wonder if assigning someone to be a radioman in your squad would alleviate some of the SL chatter. I find that I'm very wordy sometimes, and if I'm ordering my squad around I'd love to not hear any other chatter in my ear. I think someone relaying information would be far more succinct than the SL directly conveying it. This obviously has nothing to do with the technical development of PRMumble, just something that might be interesting to try out. Maybe the medic could do it.
