answer is yes. they are backward and forward compatible, but you if you want to crossfire you will need nvidia. crossfiring is using 2 video cards simultaneously. so i suggest you go with nvidia if in future you wanna upgrade and crossfire. check out gt 240 ddr5. i got it and its nice and better than a 5850 and made by nvidia. i already told you not to waste your money on that expensive *** motherboard and go with amd. 6 cores phenoms come out next month a will put whatever processor you put in that asus to shame in performance and price

6 cores? hmm the 3.2GHz Phenom II X6 1090T looks interesting, costs just about same as the i7 930 I was thinking of getting...but then again some of the benchmarks I looked up, the Phenom II X6 1090T does a little slower than the i7 (by very few fps that is), the question is, is that good over a period of time? i mean the moboard I got (I chose the cheaper one for 230, other one is 300) can support the Gulftown CPUs that are eventually gonna come from intel. if i choose the AMD rig (im probably gonna stay with the same gfx card lol cuz Im too noobish for crossfire lol and want dx11) its only gonna cost me 100 dollars less cuz ill just get this moboard ASUS Crosshair III ....Is choosing product as hard as building the computers lol x.x .....

Whats wrong with this motherboard. Like i said that original one you said cost 3 times as much. And you gain nothing by it really.
Newegg.com - JetWay JMA3-79GDGCB-D-LF AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
I say amd because upgrades are cheaper. But if I was rich i'd get an i7 975 not the 930 because it is better.
Choice is yours, you can't go wrong either way. If you want an i7 get it, evidently you already have the money to spend. But i think a little more before wasting your money on that i7 930.
Look at this link and maybe this will help you decide also.
Giant roundup: 146 Intel and AMD processors! (page 11: Arma 2) - BeHardware
As you can see the core i7 930 is slightly (1.9 fps) better than the phenom 965. And i know that phenom 6 will blow that core i7 930 out the water. And its gonna 200USD. While that i7 930 goes for $294.
Up to you brah, i'm really just trying to help, but i can be wrong.
Also amd motherboards are made for ati, so you'll be crossfire ready.

Re: can 2.0 PCI moboard be used for PCI 2.1 x16 and 2.0
tbh I just wanna stick with an Intel board (one of my friends even told me to get something similar to yours but I dunno its just me lol), hell the only reason im getting the ati 5850 is cuz it pwns the gtx 275, and compared to the other gtx's the ati is better for price. but dude I really appreciate your advise, hell I need all I can get lol, so thanks lol.
Anyway I have a small question also, do I need a network card or does the moboard come with it? (also is: is a "LAN chipset" the same as a network card") see I wanna make the new computer use wifi from my old computer (I set up a Dlink router....very crudely I might add). so Im thinking I might only need a wifi card like the one below. what do you think?
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GN-WP01GS IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Adapter Up to 54Mbps Wireless Data Rates 64/128 bit WEP, WPA, 802.1x, AES

All boards come with a NIC (network interface card),it*s the same thing as LAN chip set.
It is not called *network card* cause it*s integrated (not an add on physical card).
Wireless cards (adapters) try to go with the wireless *N* (300mbs,try to get the one with a dual band 2.4ghz and 5ghz,has 2 radios),it still works with G and B,so no worries about an older router.
