cheap i7 or a good i5 CPU

Post by ComradeHX »

I gave up on upgrading my old PC.

This year I will go back to China to get some parts.

So, should a intel i5 CPU be fine with whatever is planned for PR: ARMA2?

Also, is quad-SLI even worth it? I thought it sounded cool and is pondering whether I should try it with four cheap GPU.

Stuff quad SLI. If going multi card go with the AMD (Ati) cards, they're new eyfinity setups are nuts :) (This is coming from an old Nvidia fan-boy - currently running 2x GTX260 factory OC cards)

Does ARAM2 take advantage of Hyperthreading? If so, i7 chips will run it better, if not, equivilent i5 should do just as well.

Personally when I bought my new rig i went with i7, because all the nice big new chips will be releasing on the 1366 chipset, not the 1156 chipset. Which will mean if u do decide to go with a nice 1366 chip later down the track, you'd have to buy a new mobo, and possibly new RAM (Matched pair sets of RAM instead of matched triple sets).

On the Ati vs Nvidia front acctually... although Ati does have eyfinity, Nvidia is releasing new 3D projector support stuff... something to think about :) . Personally a nice in-home 3D cinema is all well and good for movies... but a 24" widescreen is plenty big enough for gaming ;) .

I've had no problems with my i7 920. It's a great overclocker and is great for video encoding.

I suggest doing your research obviously and make your own decision based on your budget.

I know what their specs are.

I just want to know if it is really needed to have a i7 to play PR:ARMA2 and possible PR2 smoothly.
