32bit - hanging on the splash only when internet down

I am experiencing a hang on the splash screen. This didn't happen yesterday and I haven't changed a thing!

It's odd as well because the forums were down about 5 mins ago and I am thinking perhaps this is the same thing? ? see, now the forums are back up it works fine.

What I am saying is that is an internet connection required now just to start the game?? Because otherwise it's just a massive coincidence...
