Adjusting and adding invisible shield to maps.

Post by chrisweb89 »

Firstly I'm not exactly sure how these shields work so some of these things may not be possible that I am thinking of.

My first point is to stop people from exploiting this shield. The shield should stop projectiles coming from either side, this would make sure that a LAV cant just sit behind the shield on jabal and fire away not worrying about anything. This would also stop some of the BVR fire from choppers on the carrier deck and hopefully stop people from exploiting this gameing feature which is required for some of the maps to work and not have all of the choppers blow up on the carrier.

Also when changing the the shield, the size of it around the carrier should be reduced. Helicopters don't require that much time to go from 0 speed to max as long as you are fully warmed up. The shield should just protect shoppers on the deck, not choppers running away from fire or missles.

My second suggestion is to add these shields into all the maps where baserape isn't meant to be part of the game, the exception being korengal. This would allow the DoD to be minimized and make much more of the map useable, while still eliminating baserape. The only problem I could see with this is people getting inside of the shield then wreaking their havok since the DoD would be a lot smaller. The solution to this would have a 3 second timer at most for the out of bounds and have the actual shield only surrounding the vehicle and player spawns so that there is no way the other team can get inside.

I hope this is possible because it could stop some exploiting and allow more parts of the map to be used.

Thanks for reading and the mod.

There are server admins for that. I would not want any invisible blocking objects just dues to realism.

The "shields" are nothing more then a huge collision object around a base. While they may look like a work of coding they are very basic in design.

These are really only met for carriers where land and/or deployable AA can be set in range of the carrier. Hitting every air asset that starts up.

seems to be happening a lot, think the R-MODs are locking topics without posting :p

But ye like you said, they are a very simple, one sided collision mesh around the carrier to simulate the CIWS and other countermeasures.

I would agree with making them two sided and a bit smaller. It would be fairly easy to do.

Is Jabal the only map where people can sit in an LAV and fire out from the shield? Or are there other maps?

Because Jabals carrier and shield could be shifted back a few hundred meters and it would fix that problem.

So any response from the devs about adding the 2 way collision mesh on the shield and making it smaller and only covering the carrier, not almost all of the water near it. This isn't so much for realism but for gameplay, again today while playing jabal like half the jabal games I play LAV-25s were sitting behind the shield firing away and there wasn't anything we could do other than not defend our flag. This situation isn't realistic at all and is frustrating for 1 team and makes the game easy for the other.

And like I said earlier but from what i read, wasn't answered. By making the shield 2 sided and only protecting the carrier, this would allow more of the map to be used. As an example, on jabal atm BTR-60s, the gaskin and the BMP-3 are unable to flank west beach in the water and I don't think east but im not sure on this. If the out of bounds area was able to be changed just to give them 50m of water that could have a huge difference and not lose an AAV for the entire round like I did today when it accidently felling into the out of bounds area and behind the shield, we couldn't recover it or kill it.
