New Gamemode: No Respawns?

Hey folks,

Just thought I'd spew forth my latest brain fart. Might be a good idea, might be a **** idea. I'll let you decide.

No Respawn

Designed to be played on smaller maps, 2 teams fight for control; if you go down without a medic nearby, you're out.

The concept is designed to make players more cautious and tactical with their actions and movements, and not fire on everything they see if it's not a fight they'd be able to win. Players would play as best as they could knowing that if they take a chance and lose they can't just respawn 200m away.

By the nature of this concept, I'm not saying we should have no-respawn Kashan or anything stupid like that. Have a very small ticket limit like 75 with a bleed for conquest control - 32 tickets of which are potentially lost by the entire team dying.

Perhaps a good idea for very small urban maps, like the town on Silent Eagle, or the abandonned fairground/apartments on Iron Ridge.

Again, just an idea feel free to add/adapt/develop the concept but for Christ's sake put the pitchforks down.

I think this would be very interesting as an experiment on a PW'ed server. However does approach ARMA play rather alot.

I think no respawns serve no purpose in PR. The scale of the battles here are simply large and long therefore you must require the idea of resupplies and reinforcements. It might be fine for scrim or tourney matches but even then I think it would be silly.

Did you read my post fully? Clearly states the gamemode would incorporate small scale maps/ticket ratios to account for that necessity. :wink:

I'm not asking for no respawn on 300 vs. 300 tickets on 64-man Kashan, here...

Then might as well leave it at 32 tickets. as the last man dies, game is over anyhow :)

SWEEEEEEET IDEA :) this thing would be really awesome because finnaly it would erase the noobs form the servers I AM supporting you :) why dont you make a poll and then we will see how many people like this idea :)

We tried it on TG for an event and it was kind of cool, but it was a 'siege' on Kozelsk and the defending team had the obvious advantage :P

Not that I've suggested 2 minute timed rounds, with a buy menu and individual cash for weapons, or VIP/bomb disposal gamemodes, or maps centred around one building.... :roll:

As I say, was just a brainfart and needs refining. I thought the tickets would add a strategic depth and an objective as opposed to just being a 32-man team death match. There needs to be some sort of objective why folk need to play tactically, and not just KILL 'EM ALL. :25_flamer

I like this idea. But it would need to be on a VERY small map

hmm, if they brought in the Iron Gator from BF2SF, it would be pretty cool map to play this on.. Minus the heli's and APC's of course :razz:

I would say that 32 people is to few I would rather see a big map with few tickets, why would 32 people be to few? the inf squads will be 2 or 3 people support roles as pilots is non exsistant etc after 10-20 minutes.

definitely counterstrike mode which I used love it very much but I don't know if I would choose them to play among other modes. Even right now I do not play any small maps or skirmish modes. I'm a fan of long going games with strategies, all walking burdens, waiting in tense situations and so on.

Hasn´t this been discussed in the past? I think I remeber some discussion about this.

Anyhow. I´m against this idea!

1. I would not want to wait until the round ends. PR is a game of paitience. You cannot do this unless you limit the round time to a max. of 5 min and limit the map so that you hardly can avoid each other.
Doing this brings you to something similiar to cs though.

2. Why would you still want to play PR if you change the respawn to 0. You just wish the gameplay will stay the same...

3. I´m not sure about this last one but is it even possible with the engine to only let everyone respawn once?

Sure you can solve it this way but it would not limit the spawntime of the single player but for the team itself. It would not be equally distributed.

Second of all, I can't see how this concept is hard for people to understand? I'm not suggesting CS-style team-deathmatch here...

No but as I stated above it will eventualy result in something similiar. Your idea is impossible with rounds much longer than 5 min.
