Steam "BF2.exe has stopped working"

Hi guys, I've tried trawling the internet for this one before posting here, but nothing works, or problems aren't the same as mine..

The problem:

I recently brought BF2 on Steam as I had just moved over to Win7 and couldn't find my game disc so thought it would be easier to get a digital version.

Initial install went fine and I played for one evening, however when I went to play the game again, the game will not start. The screen goes black, goes back and forth to desktop a few times and then I get told that BF2 has stopped working.

Before doing anything I just did a complete reinstall as I thought perhaps it was an issue with that, but after doing so the problem still remains.

I've just tried deleting the Battlefield 2 folder in my docs, which briefly solved the problem but as soon as I retrieve my account or even make a new one, the game crashes about 30 seconds later.

I also tried updating my drivers, but that made no difference either.

Any ideas or solutions greatly appreciated. It's really annoying me that it DID work but now isn't

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
4GB ram
Intel Pentium E2200 Dual @ 3.2GHz
ATI Radeon HD 4600

Ok, another bump. This is really starting to p!ss me off now. I really hope I get some help soon.. :S

I ran the game in windowed mode and I get this error



Thing is, there is no C:/dice blah blah folder, and BF2/Steam isn't on C drive anyway. I'm runing DX11 so why's it reporting about 9?

EDIT: Just changed the res for the Nth time and I don't get the RendDX9 popup now, but the game still crashes as soon as I start it

there is one problem with bf2 on steam and its with the ingame user. you need to turn it off because punk buster hates it becuase if you don't you keep on getting kick out. One of the only people that i now of.

OK - Problem solved - it was the TrackIR software.
