AA

Post by the_ganman »

if anyone remembers vbf2 you could fire a missifle from a jet, and the missile flies off, and on a blue moon you get lucky after being launched it picks up a target and hits it

now in pr and you launch say a stinger at the general area of a jet or choper and have it lock on sometime after launch and destroy the targET?

thanks

in vBF2 you couldn't launch a missile before you had lock and have the missile gain its own lock after launch.

If you really want I can post up the code to prove its not possible :p

We could make it possible as talked about in other topics but ye, needs more discussion behind if people would want that.

So in both vanilla and in PR; if you fire a missile without a solid lock, the missile will NOT pick up a lock in mid flight and hit its target. Correct?

The missile will not "track" a target no, if it hits a target its a fluke (thou in PR since the missiles go straight without a lock it isn't too hard, for a jet at least, Stinger AA goes all over the place).

I've done this before on Kashan randomly firing AA near enemy base.

Did you take anybody out?

On topic, could this happen IRL, locking after firing?
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

Yea, the whole round I never killed anyone and I checked the scoreboard and asked if any of their air vehicles had been shot down by AA and the opposite team said yea.

Well.. as far as in my experience in original BF2 if you fire missiles before having a full lock they lock on the way and hit the target.

Same as when the stinger missile misses its first target and finds a new one close to it whenever its friendly or not.

Sometimes the AA HUD fucks with you and you can fire while acquiring lock and hit the plane. HUD glitch, but when that happens you technically have a lock, and the enemy will know, plain luck really.

Ye, what I expect Jman is that you locked onto anouther target, fired the missile and the missile missed the target you fired it at and went flying towards the enemy main and found a new target. Pretty much what was happening on muttrah ages ago when missiles where killing choppers on the carrier from no where, because people where firing missiles at choppers flying over the docks, missiles missed, went flying towards the carrier and found a chopper sitting on the carrier loading up troops.

Ye I think that sounds like a likley explanation to me.

In r/l its possible with some missiles systems to fire a missile with no radar lock, then after the missile is in flight gain radar lock and sending the info to the missile to give the target less time to react but you can not do this in game, you have no control of what the missile tracks after you fire it.

I remember I had a very unfortunate accident on Barracuda before the Carrier shields came in, fired an AA missile at a chopper that came into view, it missed it and veered towards the carrier, killed about 28 of the 32 enemy onboard....needless to say the server had to be restarted :-P
