Hello everyone!
As many of you know i'am quite new to PR per say but i've been playing for about 2 years offline whith my friends in lan partyes we do in my home! about 15 PCs connected 48 hours of PR! almost every wekend or holyday!
i always play as the transport squad (Me and other friend) taking people to the frontlines in chopers and APCs, thats often my job when we play together!
But my question is: how many of you guys enjoy playing this role in the game? and as i'will start playing with you as soon as my Battlefield 2 arrive, i'want to know how i'am gonna be acting in your games working with you guys! and i've just happen to love my job (transportation) off course i'am a trained infantryman to but i prefer to do logistics\transportation jobs all the time!
So guys i'am welcome to join your lines as i'am or i'will have to change the way i play?
Cheers...

Re: Transport Squads Question!
A lot of people enjoy flying transport choppers. APCs are quite often used as fire support, however many players will transport people when asked to.
I personally love doing mechanised infantry with APCs/IFVs by transporting squads around and supporting them.

Re: Transport Squads Question!
You'll have to adapt to the changing situation, but you're not alone in wanting to fly a chopper.
What is going to set you apart from the rest of the wannabe pilots is listening to exactly where the infantry want to go, and the method that you get there.
Essentially, put yourself in his shoes. Would you REALLY want to land on top of the bunkers, when you can land next to it with extra cover? No.
Good luck, make sure you're switched on 100% of the time.

Re: Transport Squads Question!
also as an inf SL most of the time i end up asking for transport which is useful, what i do advise for heli's is once you pick up a squad start to RTB as soon as they are all in as its safer than waiting for them to tell you where to go.
also to all inf SL's out there please do not just say eg. "south bunkers" as its not very useful and doesn't say which bunker or where in the bunkers. also if an area is hot/flag just been taken by enemy don't as for a drop/pick up on the flag go move away from it to a safe LZ as most of the time its not the pilots fault he needed to get out of there quickly and crashed its yours for calling him into a hot LZ. don't be afraid to walk like 200-300 meters often it will help you avoid getting killed as it'll be harder for the enemy to pinpoint your position.

Re: Transport Squads Question!
just remember that it takes two to tango, infantry need to inform the vehicle regarding threats, the vehicle has to talk to the infantry to ensure the plan is good etc.

Re: Transport Squads Question!
This is something that I tend to do more than anything else these days.
Key things.
- Learn the map, so you instantly know where the good Lz's are and how to fly safely to them
- Watch the battle unfold, see where your frontlines are, watch where squads die etc so you know where is safe and where is not safe to drop.
- Dont bother with sniper 'take me to l337 spot'. You must ask yourself is it worth risking a chopper for 1 man? you need to keep it alive for crates and moving inf squads, it is not worth losing it for moving 1 guy.
- seed crates in useful spots, ties in with watching the battle unfold. See if your team is losing flags and drop crates ready on flags behind your lines so if they need to fall back, crates are already there.
- Always flare when flying over the enemy lines, pays to be safe.
Thats about it off the top of my head.

Re: Transport Squads Question!
Yes please remember as transport, you are not obliged to take mr l33t snipezor to his 'fave hill spot LOLZ'. If you believe that the pickup or drop location is too risky, suggest a close alternative that you believe to be safer. Your assets matter online, and don't let the **** talking 13 year old with his penis extension gun tell you that you're soft for not wanting to drop him in A2 on Muttrah while the MEC are assaulting North City/Docks, because it's not his responsibility to be available to transport the team around, it's yours.
Also when picking up and dropping off [and the immediate periods before and after] you're the most vulnerable in both APCs & choppers, because you have to slow down and stop. Mitigate this by choosing safe dropoff and pickup zones, an appropriate distance from the fighting and most importantly behind cover. You want to also spend as little time on the ground/stopped as possible, so tell them before you depart, that they need to all jump in/out quickly once you arrive, because you're not going to sit there for 10 seconds while people alt-tab back into game. For choppers I fully stop for the count of 3 (a bit longer if uneven terrain and I'm hovering, because that's usually in a safe zone)... if the squad member didn't jump out by then he can enjoy his ride back to main base.

Re: Transport Squads Question!
Good tips have been given. Especially the ones about flying. A lot of pilots out there just go in a zombie mode when it comes to destinations. Look on your map, where are the usual hotzones on a map, where are the flags, wheres your team. Dont go near the frontline. Set 'm off somewhere safe and make 'm walk the extra mile(s).
I enjoy transport duty from time to time as well. Not only flying. I had a period where I would set-up an APC transport squad and let one sit in main as a taxi to get people out there faster (instead of waiting on it to spawn or waiting on it to get back to base) and the other roam about and be more agressive. Didnt test it long enough to see if it worked better lol

Re: Transport Squads Question!
You'll do fine, as long as you aren't like the pilot I encountered yesterday on Jabal Al Burj, who seems to think a precise keypad and method of getting there that is perfectly safe is much worse than flying directly over the enemy-occupied Dam at a slow speed, popping flares after the missile has already hit us, and actually landing near the enemy position where we all get massacred by multiple squads.
Don't do that and you'll be a good pilot
