FPS dropping!

Post by tjm39 »

While in on any map and while im doing anything at the beginning of the game, my FPS is fine. But, always towards the middle of the game, my FPS drops. And it drops a lot! We're talking about going from 25-30 FPS to 1-7 FPS. When it goes down, it never goes back up. I have to restart the whole game and leave my team mates in the middle of a game, and it's getting fuckin annoying. I have read the forums and tried everything and nothing has helped. I'm pretty sure it happened when i had to low my setting from high to medium cause my game kept crashing. My game doesn't crash now, but it lags like a *****. Can i get any info on way it does this? And don't tell me to stop running background applications, cause Ive tried it and it hasn't worked. Thanks for your help ahead of time. =)

When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.

#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.

#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or GOOGLE IT!.
Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.

#3. Please remember to include your basic PC info in your post

You have spent some time trying to help yourself without any luck, so your ready to ask for help:

Please include your basic PC info in your post :
Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card, type of monitor
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.
The more info you can give the better your chance of getting a quick answer back.
You don't have to write a book,
but your basic PC info is needed to help you.

Good luck

Yeah, you need to list your specs. If I were to take a guess I would say your having heat Issues. When things get hot they start to slow down. Check your system temps and check the inside of your case and make sure the fans are working and the heat sinks on your components aren't covered with dust.

Try a 3rd party app like Game booster or AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop
They turn off unneeded background services etc. freeing up ram and cpu cycles.

Good luck

Try setting your game setting to all 'default'
hit 'apply'
then quit out of game.
Restart game
Reapply custom settings.

This worked for me some time ago when I was screwing around with my 'settings' trying to tweak PR.
I suddenly started getting lag all the time. After a few days of trying everything I could think of I finally tried that and it worked.

Hope it helps

Core Temp

GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility

those two work well, the nvidia one is all pretty which takes up some of your resources where as these use hardly any.

If your windows is 64bit,it NEEDS more then 2gb of ram to play BF2 (PR) at decent fps.
Your hard-drive LED (light) is on most of the time, because the windows uses it to swap data
back and forth -slowing everything down to the speed of your hard drive (the slowest component in most PC)

Pop your case open and set a box fan or something to blow cool air in.Play a few games. If it helps then install some extra fans to cool your CPU. If your CPU is more than 3 years old you might consider replacing the thermal compound with some new stuff. Thermal compound loses its effectiveness over time.

Good luck
PS you should be able to find the CPU specks on AMDs web site.

ok, i dont know what it is, but the fan thing didn't help. When i first join a game my FPS is fine, but about 20 mins into it it drops like a mofo. i was talking to some people in my sqaud and they said it could be a memory leak. It only happens on PR, other higher end games run perfectly fine. So, what could it be? Im not gonna stop asking until it stops =)

Try de-fraging your HD, then turn off your page file.
Make sure you have at least 15-20% free space on C drive.
Reboot, set a new page size (1.5x real ram is good) set min and max the same.( put page file on different drive if you can like really fast USB thumb(flash) drive.
This lets the system grab a un-fragmented part on the drive for itself, keeping the min and max the same will keep the page file (virtual ram) from getting fragmented.
Reboot -play a round or two.

Hope it helps
