Low framerates

Hi,

I have an AMD Phenom 2 x4 920 quadcore running on 3.01 ghz, 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM and an HD4870 512mb and am running windows 7. You'd think that PR would run smoothly with those specs. But, it runs quite bad: Fallujah for example has the worst performance, then comes Gaza Beach, it is still playable, but I get around 30 fps or maybe a bit higher or lower sometimes. And then there are other maps where I have decent FPS like Yamalia, (80 - 100) but even on those maps on quite some occasions I get low fps (45-50 ish or lower: on Yamalia when I zoom in on the fields) in certain spots. I really don't get the terribly low performance of a mod (even if graphically improved) of such an old game on my, not super-new but quite highspec rig.

I had to get this out, because I want the performance to be good so badly as I really fell in love with the mod, even though I just started playing off 0.91 (I would seriously make a joy-dance dedicated to the PR-Gods). I see other people with better specs (I remember a guy with GTX-280 in SLI (I think) who had terrible performance too) than me having problems too and then there are people with lesser specs or the same specs as me who are having perfect performance. It's just plain strange. Having higher framerates in Crysis than in a BF2 mod isn't quite right I guess... :p

I set my pagefile to 1.5x the size of my ram on an unused, by neither PR nor OS, partition.
And I set my textures to medium, because of a different problem: CTD's on 14% of every mapload (out of nowhere this problem appeared, before I had everything on high).

So, I hope that in the next release or maybe even earlier, the framerate problem that so many people are experiencing will be solved. (I heared from different people that in previous versions framerates were perfectly good...).

Try running BF2 Cleaner
Download Battlefield 2 Cleaner 2.0 - Battlefield 2 fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle Coalition. - Softpedia

I had a similar system and had the same issue, I reinstalled video drives and ran the cleaner and it all worked out for me.

Give it a shot

This is only effective if said partition is on a different disk.

Too bad BF2 can't handle quadcore technology :( . Perhaps not even dualcore? I'm not entirely sure.

Thanks for the responses guys,

Raw, should I first run the cleaner and then delete and reinstall my video drivers, or the other way around?

And AfterDune, yeah BF2 is a singlecore game I think, too bad :(

You should give out more info about your system. Give as much detail as possible about what components you have and what other programs you may be running. The more info you provide the better the chances someone may be able to give you good advice.

Well, I could give you a little more info:
I've got 2 HDD's together it's something near 1 TB in space.
Furthermore I'm running Windows 7 x64, but that was obvious I guess.

As for the programs that are running in the background:
Xfire is always running, most of the time Skype is running too.
Further sometimes I'm online on MSN, but almost never, and that's all.
But I'm on vacation in Israel now staying over at my family, when I'll come home next week I'll try the cleaner and look for some more programs running in the background.

Nothing is obvious in the forums unless you specifically address it in text. Windows 7 has a 32 bit version as well. It sounds like you have a lot of programs running in the background and that could pose potential problems. When you go online to play PR try this Game Booster | Fast Game Accelerator | Free Accelerator Another thing you should do is uninstall any programs your not using. make sure that windows update is working and you have all your other drivers for your pc up to date. It is so Important to have your pc running as efficiently as possible. try this program as well. CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download It is up to you to read through anything pertaining to links I posted in order to understand what Impact it may have on your system. Anything I suggest is based on my personal experience.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit is definitely compatible. I have it.

Give AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop a try.

Also check in Bios your video card is getting the largest data block it can.

Good luck

So, I returned from my vacation.
And I tried BF 2 Cleaner 2.0 and I installed the new ATI drivers, 10.7.
So it seemed to make it better and the load times quicker, but the second time, when I tried to join an internet server, it gave me a runtime error. And after that when I tried to join the same server again, in the kit selection it crashed to desktop.

Uh...

Why are you complaining, if you get over 30+ fps, that should be good enough.
