Forgotten Hope 2 fencing.

Post by darklord63 »

In FH2 fences are able to be crawled under, and heavy vehicles are able to pass through them. This would be very useful if implemented into PR. Jumping over fencing is a waste of stamina, and driving around current fences with something like an APC is just ridiculous.

Edit: Sorry meant to be put in suggestion forum.

Vehicles just pass through them. It's not completely realistic, but it does keep wooden picket fences from blocking Shermans attempting to cross farm fields. Infantry are affected by them just as in normal BF2.

Yes! especially for infantry, the col's are 'hollowed out' so you can crawl under the fence = not have to waste a large chuck of the sprint bar in jumping over.

You can crawl under BF2 fences too. I used to crawl under the wooden farm fences on Operation Harvest all the time. But I could be speeding in an Abrams tank and end up losing 10% of my tank health because I hit the fence.

If you can't make them destructible then this would be a decent alternative.

The fences give a subtle "bump" when you drive over them, they're not like bushes where you don't feel anything. I've always fancied this to be in PR tbh, especially the crawling under it, so you don't waste your sprint by jumping.

the different vheicle collision mesh sounds great I agree, though this crawling business is going too far imo, with all the kityour carrying I don't think its a good representation

Well either way, current PR fences are not drive-throughable or able to be crawled under. Although it is unrealistic to have a 20 ton vehicle be stopped by wood fencing, it is also unrealistic to be able to pass right through them. Regardless being able to drive through them is a more accurate representation and it makes the game more enjoyable. (Not having to drive around huge fencing.) It also seems like a popular idea.
Being able to crawl under a fence is even more advantageous to PR. Due to the high stamina loss of jumping over fences when they clearly have enough room to be crawled under.

IRL, you can't just crawl under a chain-link fence unless it is very loose and not really in the ground and you can lift it up. Although, I agree, if there is a fence such as a rail, where IRL there would be a space to crawl under, this "hollowed out" effect would be good.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Say rails would be able to be crawled under, but not driven through. And we could use a static wooden fence like in FH2 that would be drive-throughable and able to be crawled under in place of the fences in maps like Korengal.

Lol, of couse you shouldn't be able to crawl under chainlink fences, I'm talking about the wooden ones. Fences you would be able to crawl under in real life..

I would say FH2s crawling under is more of a representation of being able to climb over, without losing sprint.

i think i have just seen one of the best suggestions i have ever seen!.

it sounds really intuitive. that kind of thing could be used in multiple instances too, i could never see why so many small tree's could stop a tank.

While it would be nice for tanks to be able to pass through chain-link fences, I can already see an exploit there. One could position the tank "inside" the fence just so that the turret is on the far side and reverse when spotted where you'd be invincible since tank shells explode on impact with fences IIRC.
