DLing the game, and have a few questions
Hey everyone, I have played BF2 on and off for 4 years, but surprisingly i have never played Project Reality,
Lately however it has caught my interest, and i am about to download the game.
I do have a few questions however
1. How does voice chat work? Do i need to DL some program or is it integrated into the game, if i do need to DL a program how do i set it up to chat with my squad?
2. What server can i learn the game on?
3. On servers, do most people play tactically and with teamwork or are most people going solo?
4. Is the Texas server any good? I personally am from Texas and this is just a random question
Any additional help would be accepted, thanks

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
Hi, welcome to the game man, downloading PR was very good decission!
1. Voice-Chat normaly works propperly without any further programs. It's already a part of BF2. Normaly it works on almost every BF2-Server (I mean vanilla) but nobody uses it, so you might get the impression, that you need to install something, but that shuld not be the case. Just run the BF2VoiceSetup.exe, which can be found in your BF2-directory. There you can adjust you microfone to work propperly in BF2.
If you want to get a more intense feeling of PR, you could also use Mumble, but thats someting else, I would recomend you to learn the basics first.
2. At first: learn offline. There is a manual on your desctop, after installing PR. You shuld really read this one propperly, because it explains most of the basics.
Once you are done with this, you can play on every server. Just join a squad called "Teamwork", or "Voip-Inf" or something similar and try to stick to you squad and do, what your squadleader tells you. If necessary, feel free to ask everyting, most of the people are friendly to new players and will help you.
3. You can't really say that. On some servers there is great teamwork, on others there is not. It really depends on the people, that are on the server. Some rounds are great, and others are not. Unfortunately this might be a bit frustrating from time to time...
4. Can't say anything on that, because I don't play on this server (I prefere european servers)

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
First Welcome to the Forums,
1. How does voice chat work? Do i need to DL some program or is it integrated into the game, if i do need to DL a program how do i set it up to chat with my squad?
-you can use voip ingame default button is B
Also when you install PR it comes with a program called Mumble it enables you to hear other people around you and not your entire squad at once, really helps with the teamwork so you can coordinate with other people not in your squad
2. What server can i learn the game on? Join a Coop server first you can learn basic things their but isnt really the full "PR experience" If you want to play Multiplayer Join the Tactical Gamer Server good friendly people and good teamwork
3. On servers, do most people play tactically and with teamwork or are most people going solo? Yes when you Join a server i recommend joining a squad Labeled VOIP INF, INF VOIP , ENGVOIP , something along those lines then after you join a squad tell the squad leader you are new and hell direct you on what you need to do most players on PR are friendly though some can be asses just like in all games
after that stick sloe with your squad this is a must if you want to stay alive, PR is all about teamwork and moving together as one
4. Is the Texas server any good? I personally am from Texas and this is just a random question See above post
*edit* Su34 beat me to it

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
Glad to see another new player join the community. The guys above have already given you some good advice. I would like to reinforce the importance about what Su34 said about the PR Manual.
You can read it while downloading or after. It's extremely simple, and helpful and should only take a few minutes to go through. A lot of new players blow it off and jump right into the game, myself included. I ended up reading it after playing for about a week. It cleared up loads of information for me. When I started playing again after reading the manual it was like I was playing for the first time again!
Another thing to remember is to have a little patience. Sometimes PR takes a little time to grow on people. I promise you theres no other gameplay experience like it in the world. Don't be discouraged if you have some bad rounds or end up in a bad squad. Most players are willing and excited to help new guys so don't be afraid to say you're new when entering a squad.
Best of luck, I hope to see you in game sometime soon! I play mostly on TacticalGamer and HARDCORE Insurgency!

Positional audio to hear people around you is what Mumble is for. You can find an excellent guide about how to setup mumble at http://alpha-pr.org/mumble. We also have an excellent mumble community and have a US server.
2. What server can i learn the game on?
Tactical Gamer is probably the main one to go on to actually learn and get good experience. You can only join their server when it is at 61 people or below unless you get a supporting membership.
3. On servers, do most people play tactically and with teamwork or are most people going solo?
It always depends on what server you go on and the players on the server.
4. Is the Texas server any good? I personally am from Texas and this is just a random question
The Texas server is ]TAR[. Some people have had bad experiences there, but this forum isn't the place for that.
Any additional help would be accepted, thanks

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
Most squadleaders won't know or care that you're new so long as you can follow orders, stick with the squad, and don't waste important weapons. If you're new to the game, you're better off sticking to the Rifleman kit for a while and playing as an infantry grunt.whatshisname55 wrote:will most squads accept a pair of newbies? i just made a friend on a co op server![]()

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
I wouldnt recommend it. The auto rifleman (LMG) is a very important asset in a squad, and you can only have 1 of them at a time. The normal rifleman is not limited, its a very usefull kit and its harder to srew things up with it for new playerswhatshisname55 wrote:would it be ok if i use the auto rifleman instead? i had a lot of fun playing as that
But you should always ask your squadleader what kit he needs you to take. (ALWAYS!)
Then you can ask him if he is fine with you taking the LMG.
Good luck!

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
Some1 here asked how does the VOIP work:
As squad member you can speak to your squad mates while pressing B (default). And squad leader can also talk to commander by pressing V.
If you want to speak with some1 from another sq, here comes the Mumble
. But you dont have to bother with mumble right now, learn the basics at first. GL!

If your new, its best not to take responsibility as if you mess up it pisses everyone off.

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
Probably not for your first few games. The AR kit is very important to a squad, which means that people will expect more out of you if you take it. If you just take a regular rifle, you won't draw so much attention to yourself in case you make a mistake.whatshisname55 wrote:would it be ok if i use the auto rifleman instead? i had a lot of fun playing as that

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
Gonna go the complete opposit of what everyone else said
Id personaly say skip coop alltogether as it will only teach you bad habbits and doesnt represent what online PR is IMHO.
You like and are comfortable with AR?go it infact I would recomend AR to any new player its accurate easy to use and has a very low learning curve compaired to any other weapon.
As for kits in general take what ever you are asked to take.
The only things not to do as a new player is fly a trans heli. And the only things not to do ever is go solo or take a sniper kit.

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
Join a squad, say you're a noob, try and play in squads that have leadership. If the SL never talks, if the squad is spread over the map, then leave the squad and find one with an SL who talks, its especially good if he immediately greets you as you enter the squad, usually means he's on top of it.
People say don't take responsibility for kits before you can handle it cause it ruins everyone elses play or lets the squad down. I say that that is true but for a very different reason. You must must must learn to be a good rifleman before getting distracted with special weapons. Nothing competes with a guy who is deadly at all ranges with an unscoped M4 or QBZ. CQB and Long Range rifleman stuff is key to being a good player and from that basis you can develop into any other kit you want.
Everybody is a rifleman first and foremost (or thats what every SL should tell you), even the medic. Shoot your gun, never leave 90% of your ammo on your corpse, but try not to be a tard and shoot it needlessly, just at enemies. Be good with grenades, be johnny on the spot with the ammo bag and be reliable at standing still and staring at one doorway for 15 minutes straight, then you can be a great LMG cause they do that staring **** too but they have a lot more riding on their concentration. Medics need to be good with a non scoped weapon cause thats what they have but they also need tobe good at reading the lay of the land and the situation so they can dodge death to keep you alive. Every kit really draws on one of anything a regular rifleman does so learn that so you are someone every SL wants (a smart fast Rifle that talks but isn't a nub) then you can get the kits that make your life harder.
My advice since it worked for me and many people who started. Basics are your friend in your first few months since you'll be so overwhelmed with all the other weird details of the gameplay that you don't want to have to wonder what deployed mode means or bother remembering at what range the AT-4 starts to drop.

Re: DLing the game, and have a few questions
I would dissuade any new player from using the AR kit, yeah, your going to have had a lot of success with it in co-op because it is the most dangerous kit in PR. But in real PR it is just as dangerous to you and your own team as it is to the enemy, before you develop the situational awareness and the experience to know how and when to deploy it to its fullest capabilities. Not only does the odds of blue on blue increase exponentially when your armed with the AR, most of the AR kits in game are loud, make a distinctive noise and create a steam of tracer fire that points directly to your squad. The enemy, especially enemy not issued with a good AR are all after your kit. Nowhere is this more true than in insurgencey mode, before the officer and medic, you are primary target in any fire-fight. And not to be nasty, if your new, your odds of getting separated from your squad, left behind, or shot in a location that your squad will be unable to revive you are massively increased. Rather than bringing up the rear with the support kit, if your new, your best bet is to use the standard rifle, stick with the squad and observe. And if you learn the frustration of being pinned by a group on insurgents with stolen SAW's before you learn the awesome l33t I killed 10 of them before they got me mentality it will benefit you and the team your playing with massively in the long run.

1. How does voice chat work? Do i need to DL some program or is it integrated into the game, if i do need to DL a program how do i set it up to chat with my squad?: Nope, you just press and hold down 'B', press 'V' when there is a commander and you need to speak to him.
2. What server can i learn the game on?: There is a CO-OP section, I would HIGHLY consider trying that before you go onto deployment
3. On servers, do most people play tactically and with teamwork or are most people going solo?: They use Tactics and Teamwork, I love it that way!
4. Is the Texas server any good? I personally am from Texas and this is just a random question: It should be with you!

1. Read the Manual
2. Read the Manual
3. Make sure you tell your squad leader and team you are new, they will be more inclined to help you.
4. Start with rifleman in a squad, until you get the basics down
5. Oh... and read the manual
But with that said and everyone elses comments, nothing will prepare/teach you better then trial by fire.
Welcome, you just bumped your BF experience thru the roof!
