[0917] 'Molotov' effect, Muttrah, invisible cube of death.

Post by dtacs »

Description:
On Muttrah, me and my squadmate were chilling around the block north of the hotel in north city. After taking the invisible BVR fire bug from the cobra and my teammate (COKEMAN671) dying, he complained that he was being burnt, as if there was a Molotov present. Naturally wanting to retrieve his kit to revive him, I climbed the ladder in the screenshot only to take instant burning damage, taking about 4-5 seconds till I was wounded, then killed.

After consulting the Cobra crew I confirmed that at the time of our death there was no cobra fire taking place, and this was confirmed even more through the sense that it was progressive burning rather than explosive damage.

Roughly 10 minutes later, we began to take the EXACT same damage in the hotel parking lot, one thing we did notice though is that it was confined to an invisible space of around 5-6 meters across. People didn't believe us, but we were adamant that it was burning damage, and NOT the cobra firing.

However, after further consulting the enemy crew we confirmed that they were firing BVR style into that parking lot a few minutes earlier.

My theory is that as the BVR fire changed location, this 'cube of death' followed. We unfortunately didn't experience it again, nor have I since.

One thing that may be important is both times there was the cobra cannon sound bug, a constantly firing sound but which is usually situated 400m above docks, and doesn't stop until the cobra fires again, or sometimes just stops randomly.

I unfortunately can't be more specific than I already have, but something just didn't feel right that round...there was alot of sound bugs and weird stuff like the enemy HAT firing light, with absolutely no projectile at all. I believe the guy firing it was 00978232, a member of the forums.

Or maybe its Rhino controlling us like puppets with his DEV hacks?

Steps to Reproduce:
Its really impossible to recreate, I guess a certain amount of BVR fire from the cobra put onto a certain location could yield results, however the moving part is something that is really beyond me. I don't think the location of it happening was specific, theoretically it could occur anywhere.

Screenshots / Video:
This is the building that it first occurred on (not where I am in the pic, but up the ladder)

Video Settings (if needed):
I highly, highly doubt it is video related.

Hmm... try reproducing it on an empty server (get 4 guys and ask them to try that). And record it?

Otherwise this is a weird bug I've never seen before, maybe some redundant paradoxes with codes happened or something... Can't really tell...
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

Then I walk over the impact area and I burnt myself until I died. Sometimes you can see a stuck bottle in the walls, but that time I could not do so.
That's different, that is a bug the with the molotovs themselves.
Muttrah City has no molotovs available.

I was in squad with dtacs as this was happening.
Usually when something strange is going on I'm usually adamant that there is a reasonable explanation but this was definitely weird. At one point I was walking and went from full health > lots of blood on my screen (lots) > to dead and being unable to be revived.
