Computer freezes.

Post by H.Wihlborg »

Hello, I just reinstalled BF2 and PR because i got C2Ds when joining servers. After the reinstall it worked fine but after maybe 20-30 mins on a server the game freezes and all I can do is to shut down and restart my computer. I have tried to update drivers and to lower all settings to medium, but without result. Are there any other things I can do before reinstalling PR and BF? I will try to play a vanilla BF game and see if it freezes too.

Computer specc:
Intel Core 2 Duo [email protected]
Nvidia Geforce 9600GT 512mb vram
2x2gb DDR2 RAM

I only have about 38-40 degrees celsuis on load so overheat problems may be ruled out.
I also change my theme in Win7 to basic to free more RAM.

All help is appriciated.

Defrag your HD
Keep 4 gigs free on drive with game installed.
Increase Vram ( 1.5 x real ram is good) set mid and max the same.
Set the 'affinity' of the game to 2 (force the game to run on one cpu or core only, in this case core #2 )

Run PR in 'windowed' mode
If you still have problems
run PR in 'windowed' mode to see if any error messages come up
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Right click on shortcut.
Choose properties from bottom of list.
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window.
("C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 1)

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0
Should look like this in Vista ( XP lose the (x86) ):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 0

Then Google or use 'search' on Project Reality web page for the error message you get next time you crash..
Good luck

Well, I changed to windowed mode, compability mode with XP sp3 and run as administrator. This is the result (without crashes or freezes though). I will play around with the settings and see if something works

EDIT: After going fullscreen again, it seems fine.
