Using legs to control the games

Post by Claymore »

Has anyone tried that yet? I have health problems with my left hand when playing FPS too much. It's caused by holding the shift or ctrl for too long, the position of the hand is uncomfortable on a normal keyboard so I've been searching for alternatives.

I had a Belkin N-52. It was very nicely shaped and programmable so I could relax my arm while being able to access all of the required buttons - especially the thumb joystick was useful as it could be programmed for 8 different keys, even though 4 of them were not very reliable. But it broke and I don't plan to get another one as the buttons were kind of hard to press and it doesn't have enough buttons for games like Arma 2.

The main issue I see with team based games like PR is that sometimes you need to communicate on several different channels and the game requires you to press and hold several action keys + radio key at once while all of them have to be easily accessible.
If we leave out 3 fingers controlling WASD, there's the little finger available for shift, ctrl, caps, tab and thumb for everything else. It's uncomfortable for the thumb to reach and press anything above the space even if I turn the right side of the keyboard towards me. If I mapped the radio channels on the mouse buttons, then holding them would disrupt my aim when shooting moving targets. So I was thinking about buying this Information - SteelSeries which would solve the left hand ergonomic issues with pressing shift, ctrl and alt but there would still be a delay in case the thumb has to move to a radio channel button. Which brings me to the thought of using some controller on the floor to control the radio channels. There would be no delay, the only requirement for the keyboard or whatever that would be is that the leg thumb has to be able to recognize the correct buttons.
If you have tried this or have some other suggestions on this topis please post them. Thanks :-)

map radio buttons to the mouse and dont use them when you need to snipe? I cant see how it would disrupt your aim while tracking unless you were clicking them hard repeatedly instead of holding to talk

If you hold a mouse button the hand becomes stiff and you can't move as precisely as with the hand relaxed.

Only suggestion I can give you is to lay off the games for a while or control the amount of time you spend playing them. If your fingers and wrists starting to hurt - it is time to relax and go do something else. Just my two cents.
