Mines to sometimes immobilize tanks?

Post by Element-X_IV »

So, as I've read mines are designed for mobility kills.
In PR it's common to run over these things when in armor.
Is it possible to probably have mines to make the Tank immobile if it explodes under the tracks instead of killing the tank instantly.
Here's a video of an M1 having it's tracks destroyed after running over a mine.

I've also noticed that you dont really have to drive over a mine for it to kill you.
You just have to be in a certain radius for it to explode and kill the vehicle.
Could this system probably be changed or is the mine just meant to be that way in the BF2 Engine for it to be effective?
Hardcoded probably? I don't have much knowledge in coding so....
Devs?

Video below, Zrix fixed it, thanks.

This would probably just take some increased damage fall-off with distance.

How are you planning to do this then ? I mean, like if you hit an APC with a LAT it sometimes destroys instantly and sometimes it's just hit because of the varous areas of the APC that are more/less lethal. But a tank only has two tank tracks.

I believe if I'm correct, getting "Tracked" is the closest we can get to immobilized by explosives, but I'd like seeing this ;)

I Vote for ... Mines do Just enough damage to Disable / retrack the Tanks and apcs causing the crew to bail out before it catches fire and blows up... instead of a giant BOOOM! and there goess the tank ahaha there are enough changes for that with IEDS .... so the skill to drop a mine isnt just oh look i got a kill ... its .. oh look i toook out a tank now kill the rest of the crew ...

this also will promote extraction tactics to get crews out of Hot zones sooo ...
For me i vote 10+ yes yes because it would deffinatly help with gameplay]

It would be nice if some one took this into consideration too.

( OH DAM ... Big red Is Running the F away lol ) ^_^

Just like Spartan said, even simply having it tracked when running over mines with tank tracks would be good. As I also don't think that running over a mine with a tank irl would count for an instant kill.
And, imo this would be good as it would also give enough time for the crew to bail out if it catches fire or atleast make the insurgents use some sorta ambush tactic instead of just laying mines and leave thinking 'oh hehe I hope he runs over this'.

Not all landmines you have to directly go over.
Proximity can also set them off.

It has been suggested for tanks having more hp but the disabled state would be on the same hp, it just wouldnt explode instantly. That would be cool as more vehicles would be immobilized on the field and you would need repairs. (Like choppers have higher hp si you can crashland...)

Are proximity AT mines even realistic?

i think insurgence have a hard enough time killing that tank, let one mine kill it or lower the rpg hit count.

I think medics should be equipped with pliers.

Just in case.

On topic though, you are suggesting mines do something like 94% damage and at 94% a tank GETS TRACKED DEFINITIVELY?

That could work IMO... But then an RKG should be able to take out a tank on that state...
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

NO, the Abramses and Challangers are supposed to be hard to kill with RPGs. A lucky RPG can make the tank gunner blind(messes optics and all that) or maybe start a fire in the engine compartment. Other than that, a tank like the 2 mentioned previously can withstand over 20/30 RPG-7 hits in the side or front and still go on.

Of course, I'm not talking about a tandem warhead, just the popular HEAT rounds that RPGs have.

If it hits the top, there is a chance that one could penetrate, which would be bad business.

It could, but many times it won't. At least on an Abrams. Also RPGs tend to bounce if they hit something at a low angle, even if its concrete or steel. So someone would really have to be very high, or right above the tank, situation in which aiming the RPG is quite a problem.

Buff for BluFor tanks? sure, why not???

Give Insurgents trip-wire EFP that kills anything in one hit and then we will think about it.

Actually if running a tank tracks it, the US will most likely spend massive amounts of tickets trying to get it back up and repaired because of how valuable of an asset it is.

In other words, this would make mines more annoying then they are now.
