After nearly two years of work by a long list of developers, Project Reality will be introducing Deployable Mortars with the next update.
Conventional and Unconventional factions alike will all be able to deploy mortar pits, and all will use the M252 81mm mortar as a placeholder until more assets are created. Specifically for the insurgents, we have created a version of the mortar which provides cover in a bit more... interesting way.
The mortar uses a ballistic and player computed aiming system that will allow players to provide indirect fire support for their team. Once you receive a location from a spotter on your team, you are able to calculate the barrel angle required to hit that mark. The targeting screen then allows you to see what angle you have the gun slewed to so you can aim the mortar properly.
Although the mechanics may change in the future the following tutorial will serve as a guide for using the mortar as it will be in v0.95.
AWESOME!!!!!!!! this is going to be EPIC I notice one of our new Marines is up there aswell?

OMG, now you gotta really keep moving or the mortar will hit you. This is awesome. Does the mortal round really fly in the air or only appear above target?
AWESOME JOB!

No and no.

In a word: teamwork. The previous system required none, this does. These are very very powerful assets when used correctly so to be able to do it accurately with one man and no coordination would be neither realistic nor appropriate.

Is there any particular reason why it wouldn't work with a 2D marker? And are the 3D markers even going to be replaced for the upcoming patch?
I'm really looking forward to using and calling mortar support whenever it's needed. The current area attack is getting a tad annoying. However, this system looks brilliant, I must say.
