Flying swirl

Post by Cassius »

How do you make a swirl in the yet? The jet turns around its axis once, at the same time its writing an O such as 1 min into this video.

Are you talking about the visual effect of a white line coming off the wingtips? That's automatic.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

No I am talking about the move the jet is doing one min into the video. The jet is turning on its own axis, at the same time the jet is writing an O. Just look at the jet 1 min into the video.

yea i was wondering the same thign ... its EASY simply IF you are using a joy stick ... pull back while rotating the roll. but not full force.. this will pull your airplane so the nose goes up at the same time changing the direction from UP to Left-or right to down and back around......

opposed to .. just rolling the aircraft using a full Left or Right roll motion..

and if your not using a Joystick ... simply instead of using your mouse press the Down and Left or Right arrow at the same time and Theres your corkscrew :)

Basically just hold down DOWN ARROW - Right / Left ARROW - A or D Button at the same time.

I didn't have any problem doing it at full throttle but if Redamare says that its better with less then try it out.

Oh, that's technically what a Barrel roll is lol. (Fun fact, just doing an aileron roll doesn't constitute a barrel roll, you have to maneuver in all three axis to do a true "Barrel Roll")

One can barrel roll to the left by applying
  • Full left roll, or aileron, control (I use left/right Arrow Keys for Roll control)
  • Partial/Full positive pitch, or elevator, control (I use up/down Arrow Keys for Pitch control) This will vary based on how tight you want the roll. If you're gentle on the stick, you can do a huge, looping roll that takes almost the whole map to accomplish. Mash that thing all the way to the wall to snaproll around.
  • Full left yaw, or rudder, control. It won't help much, but it does a little. (I use A/D for Yaw control)
So to spiral forward helically, as seen at about 1:00 in your video, I hold the following keys on my keyboard:
  1. W (throttle)
  2. Down Arrow (Positive pitch)
  3. Left Arrow (Rolling to port)
  4. A (Marginally correcting for the rolling action)
  5. Shift (Afterburner) (Optional, if I need to stretch out the maneuver, elongating the roll)
