Rising load times

Post by CommunistComma »

Hey;
So I have this problem with my load times. The first map I load when I launch the game load's real fast, but the second ones slower, and third one and so on.
The first one, I can load a map with 2:30 on the map starting clock (you know, the 3 min timer). Then eventually I get load times running up around 10 minutes. I've been dealing with it, going to scrounge for food, cooking that food, walking the dog, taking a shower...if you get the idea. Problem is by the time I get ingame the game's already well underway. It's a *****. I'm going to stop bitching now and ask WTF?

AMD Phenom II 2.7ghz
Asus M4A785-M
2 gb DDR2 667 Mhz
Asus Nvidia Geforce 9800GT
Windows 7 Home 64 bit

Everything looks fine except maybe the RAM... I've heard that PR's ram requirements are getting pretty big (when I play it can use up to 60% of my 6gb = 3.6GB, although that's with windows and background proggies etc... so probably around 3gb.

Maybe first try increasing the size of your pagefile, although I'm not sure that'll help too much, and secondly if you have any friends with ddr2-667mhz ram, ask if you can borrow another 2gb for a few days. I'm pretty sure that having 4+gb would sort out the issue.

The plus side of borrowing it is if that isn't the problem, then you haven't wasted any money and you can track down what else it could be :)

2 gb DDR2 667 Mhz
I'd upgrade here, fortunately for you its also the cheapest and most cost effective component to upgrade :)

though slower and slower times could be something to do with temperature?

It's probably the RAM. But it seems like a major bug. I know my ram's shit, I plan to get some more, but the thing is, it loads fine. It just doesn't load fine the next time. I know it's not the temperature because I monitor it.
This problem is exclusively PR related.

I really set up for more RAM. Should really get some more. Job first tho.

Maybe until you can afford the $35-40 for the new 2GB of ram, try this method

Windows 7 Home 64 bit
since you have 64 bit you can shove a **** load of RAM in there if your mother board supports it?

any other Win 7 users expereience this problem?

win 7 users can run in XP mode right? try that and see what happens.

Not a bug. Your memory is slowly being leaked by BF2. You can use a program called mz Ram Booster (psyrus linked to it above) which will optimize and clean up your computer's memory when one of a few conditions is met (like optimize when available ram is under x amount, etc).

Nothing can be done to fix it on the PR team's end, and likely not much even on DICE's end (if they were to actually do something about it). Happens with any game; usually not noticeable. More so with BF2 being a little old and unoptimized, with PR pushing it past it's original limits.

Didn't the 1.5 patch enable the use of more than 2GB of RAM? (and yes, that would only work on 64-bit systems)

Might be worth defragmenting your drive regularly also.

Well no... because the 32bit limitation is at 4gb addressable space, ie 2^32 = 4,294,967,296 which is where the 4gb comes from. So programs (OS included) can address up to 4gb in a 32bit environment, which is double that of 2gb, which means that 32bit systems can indeed take advantage of being able to use address >2gb of ram in bf2.exe. When it hits above 4gb is when you need 64bit operating systems/programs.

Good point, I'm going to do that.

Okay, I had already dled that Ram booster thang. Will it automatically optimize shit? Because it has a button saying optimize, and I cant alt tab outta PR w/o a class 2 fail. Or class 3, if I'm connected to TG.
