From the prespective of coding it is possible block out the selection of off limit items within a kit?
For example if I were to pick up an medic kit could the epipens and firstAid kit be blocked from use while the M4/M16 or what ever and bandges would still be useable provided there is ammo?

Doesn't sound like something the the devs would have access to, knowing how limited the BF2 engine actually is.

Re: About blocked enemy kits
The way kits are blocked is simply this:
1) A timer starts when you pick up the kit
2) After 15 seconds, your screen goes black
3) After another 15 seconds, you are killed
None of the weapon slots in the kits are blocked by themselves, you can use any weapon you pick up even while your screen is blacked out. It's just that using a HAT without being able to see your target is challenging at best, so you might as well move on with your life and use your own team's kits

I think BF2 can only distinguish kits, not the individual weapons/equipment. A BF2 colleague might shed some more light on it though.

I'm fine with the restricted kits, but I find myself no longer playing Insurgents because of it. One of the best parts of being OPFOR on insurgency was finding that para or that AT kit from the squad you just smoked. Overall I think its better for gameplay, in .917 after first contact the entire insurgent team had enemy kits.

Locking as this is:
1. A suggestion outside of the correct forum section whilst the suggestion forum is closed
2. A re-suggestion
3. Not possible on the BF2 engine
Please search for your topic in future to avoid duplicate threads and wait until you can post in the suggestions forum before making any further topics.

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "
