XFX Graphics cards

I've heard bad things about their 5770 series, apparently the plastic base they use for the cards is defective, and breaks down into a white powder inside user's machines. Used versions of these cards are now selling 25-35% below comparable cards because of the defect. Also, XFX has apparently been giving people the run-around when they try to RMA the cards - not giving them an RMA address, shuffling them on tech support lines, etc.

If you're looking at a 5770, just get another card. It's not worth the risk of getting a defective card. If you're looking at another card, go to newegg.com and check their reviews to see if people are reporting similar issues.

I personally would steer clear, but I know they have some cheaper cards that at least appear competitive performance-wise, shop carefully and you should be okay.

That's a bit of an exaggeration - the XFX consistently outperformed the Sapphire by 1 or 2% on most of the tests, the only game where it was more than that was L4D, where it was in fact quite high - 65-85% on the various settings.

Honestly, I'd throw out the L4D test as an anomaly. Ultimately, the data suggests the difference will probably be about 2% on most games.

Yeah it was the LFD that shocked me, but also on crisis it performed better than I expected.
Just spent an hour on Newegg. I didn't realise that there was so many problems with cards arriving DOA even companies that I thought were meant to be high quality still had some, Shappire for example.

What cards do you use guys, and would brand would you reccomend.

XFX RMA can be a pain in the arse to sort out. I will not recommend them to anyone, but that's just my personal experience wit them.

My personal experience with XFX is all positive. When I think about it, my last three cards have all been XFX (Nvidia 7900GT, Nvidia 9800GTX and ATI/AMD 5870 <- current ). But on the other hand I never had to return any of my cards so I don?t know how they are to deal with if the card is broken from start. Or if you run into some kind of problem.

So XFX is not bad but unless you?re going to start over clocking and stuff, which brand doesn?t really matter. Maybe if you want a costume cooler mounted from start then it does. But otherwise it really doesn?t.

What I've heard is that XFX has produced quality product in the past, but in the last 6-12 months has taken a mega nosedive, especially in terms of dealing with RMAs.

As far as DOAs - it happens with all computer products. They are made in mass quantities in China and are not individually tested until they reach the consumer. If you put it in your computer and it doesn't work, you just want to know that you can RMA it and you'll get a new, working card in a short period of time.

I'm a bit of a Gainward fanboy to be honest. But, saying that, my XFX HD4870 1gb has been flawless since I installed it about 18 months ago. I've not had a single problem with it apart from when I seriously overclocked it! It got hot and cut out - but that was totally my fault

I'd recommend them happily (although like I said, I do have a bit of a soft-spot for Gainward)

Ok I just wanna know that there are many types of nVidia 8500 graphics cards available but there are some with fatal1ty. What is fatality and what does it do.Is it the same thing as iChill in the inno3d cards, and which one is better xfx or inno3d.
