Why do people hate jets?

I have just recently come back to PR after buying a new computer, and I have noticed over the past few weeks that I cannot find any (active) servers that host jet maps. Truth be told there are only like 4 active servers that I get less than 200 ping on(damn the UK!), so I may have just overlooked it.

My favorite map a long time ago when I used to play was Kashan desert due to it having just about anything you could want, and people used to play it alot. Now its like the map got deleted or something.

Do people hate jets, is it due to the maps that jets just happen to be on, or is there some other underlying issue here I am not seeing?

Bit off topic-I was playing around with the UAV a couple days ago, thought it was awesome by the way, then I go to work for 8 hours, come back to play with it again, and everyone is telling me it was disabled due to crashing servers. Did it just get disabled recently, without a patch or anything, or did I *somehow* bypass the lock on it and get to use it? Tried searching UAV and got zero results

I think because they are such a weighted asset. If the enemy has air support, and you don't, have fun trying to dodge bombs all round.

Also, a lot of people, even on clan servers, tend to fight over them ("I was here first", "My squad called it", "you crashed last time". ect)

Becuse too many people are only interested in heavy assets. the "cobra" or "JET" squad are almost always created before 1:30 and the first in the list. half the tards who do this crash it in the first 10 minutes any with a 30 ticket loss to their side.

I don't get why people migrate to PR just to circle alone in a jet all round, why not just beef wake island instead.

Because destroying a target as valuable as a tank with ease when working a spotter is the epitome of teamwork, and shows that teamwork can overcome even the most powerful obstacle.

No-one in PR 'hates' jets, they just dislike the concept for a myriad of reasons, be it a fighter limited to such a small space, or some people preferring ground combat instead of something in the air which in some cases can literally be game-deciding.

The lack of jet maps featured in maplists is due to the generalized nature of 4km maps: open space with far flung combat and lack of centralized objectives. Maps such as IEagle and Burning Sands demonstrate this 'infantry island' technique but unfortunately they don't have jets on (the former however, will be getting them in due time)

If you want to see more jet maps, take up mapping or design a map and present it to someone who would be willing to make it. Or when the suggestions thread is open, give suggestions on maps that would increase the teamplay - and lure more communities into adding it to their maplists.

Jets are pretty effective and cool. But you got to land, and people have a lot of troubles to land, I saw some that didn't even know how to activate taxi drive. A chopper can just land smoothly, rearm, and lets go! And its pretty efficient with a good spotter and coords. Now when :43 is pass on Iron Eagle, I'm scare like sh*t in my Markava.

Wow you couldnt be more right about this... I remember actually being tkd just because I got the jet or some BS like that.

The reason why I like to "circle around in a jet" is cause its probably the most fun asset in the game. Im not saying I dont like the slow play of PR, but sitting around in a tank or as inf is alot less fun to me than a jet... like not even comparable.

This is what I LOVE about jets(minus the bickering). If the other team has incompetent pilots, or maybe you are just a little bit better, you can sway the entire fight to your teams side. Can really suck if you are the other team getting raped, but thats war. How does everyone feel when they play insurgents? Not a very even fight indeed, and you arnt even given assets to begin with to compensate for it.

And as I remember, the moblie AA had a huge range and was actually quite feared by a jet, so even if you lose your jets you arnt out of the fight completely.

Also a couple of posts about the maps that jets inhabit... I agree, Kashan sucked for ground units. Wish they would make a jet map that didnt suck... (hint hint)

People that dont know how to land or, for the love of god, taxi the runway, are in the same catagory as people who take the heli and crash it in 30 seconds. This is not a flaw in jets, it is the flaw in the user. Go to a training server and learn how to do it, or get kicked/banned just as you would with any other asset.

oh yeah that was the reason i got into FH1942, maps large enough to plan and execute mechanized assaults

The map size isnt even that bad. I couldnt imagine it being practical any bigger. Ground troops would have a hell of a time getting around, and it would turn into another Kashan desert map.
The view distance limitation isnt even worth mentioning. You are a strategic asset sent in by intell you gain from your commander and SLs. Wait for intell, go in and drop a bomb, hit em up with some rockets/cannon, or wait for a laze. If you are skimming the ground looking for targets you must be suicidal, and not worthy of flying the jet in any server.
And I am quite sure the speed the jets travel are accurate. I have played several jet simulations and its pretty much the same game, just dumbed down a bit. The mechanics are all there, just not as many gadgets.
So um... yes, jets can and will work if they make a map that is fun for ground units to play as well.

why do people hate jets/ Because they crash and cost of a shit load of tickets for no clear benefit.

Why they crash is namely from noobs failing to even realise you need to taxi onto the runway before you can take off. or some thing else equally stupid.

Favourite example of this is a guy who destroyed all my teams choppers because he could not figger out that you need to wait for the rotors to get up to cycle before you can take off.

One thing they do excel at though is killing noobs, which i guess can be a benefit, we have to de-noob them some how.

Besides, the trackball is the best "all around" I have found. Great for inf., sniping, helis, and WWII flying....though I'll probably have arthritic thumbs by fifty.

I actually do have an old flight stick, but I think it was made in the late eighties .

Jets are unrealistic and maps too small, thats the reason I really dont like them. I prefer attack choppers more as they can be operated in 4km map.
