Will my new half-breed build run PR maxed out.

Post by puckett »

Just wondering if this setup I am looking at building this holiday season is enough for PR .95 to run at maximum settings.

Coolermaster Extreme 550 watt PSU
AMD Athlon II x3 440 AM3 w/ stock cooler, I may be able to unlock the fourth core if it aint defective. Which will make it a Phenom II B45?
Powercolor PCS+ AX5770 1GBD5-PPG
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H mobo
4GB DDR2 677 ram
Windows 7 Ultimate 64

I had to settle for the GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 because I do not want to spend a shitload on DDR3 ram. So I decided on a cross socket board to maintain my DDR2.
I know it is a less-then-average spec build but I am a student and money doesent go like toilet paper.

moved to the hardware section

What resolution do you want to run the game at? The higher it is the less FPS you will get. The resolution has quite some impact on performance.
As has the AA-setting which I suggest you leave off.

Got a PROBLEM? Check this: PR:BF2 Installation Guide

Heh, I like AA too much myself, I actually sacrifice other settings for AA when I have to.

And yea, on that system settings will depend on resolution. At 1280x1024 I think you could get fairly close to max.

I want to run it at 1440x900 with 8Samples AA. I thought the 5770 1gb would be able to handle that, I was thinking an Eyefinity setup earlier haha... I guess that is a little far beyond my system though.
I mean, lets be honest. 0x AA on a Samsung 21' 1440x900 is total ****, you cannot see any enemies at long ranges when unscoped. You start to confuse enemies with shrubs.

I think it will be fine, Pr only really uses 2 cores and 4 GB is fine...with a 64bit system and the card can run Arma2 OA maxed i think it will help here to ;)

In that case I might aswell save money and buy a dual core Athlon II 3ghz instead of this tri-core.
I do not even know of any mainstream games that fully support 3 cores. Wait a minute, I thought the BF2 engine only used 1 core.

I'm not sure about CPU with BF2/PR

But the bigger the better....3 cores is always better then 1....not in a sense with games but with other computer tasks....I say stay with the 3 cores or maybe even bump it up to a 4 core....may i ask where you are buyig this from?

I would check with others but this guy seemed pretty good to me

Buy the AMD Athlon II X4 630 Quad Core Processor at TigerDirect.ca

Seems pretty nice; But I have some sort of strange attachment to newegg. Not to mention buying with 1 retailer is easier and reduces paypal or western union fees
