Louder weapons ingame

Post by TheParadoX »

Hello,

I was just wondering if people agreed with my point of view: The game would be more "realistic" and intense if the weapons were 15-20% louder than they currently are. I guess many people/devs here have shot actual weapons in their time and know that they are so very loud.

Cheers,

I knew this answer would show up :)

I meant of course the relative volume of the weapons to the rest of the game. That might lead to internal squad communication difficulties, like in real firefights which is, in my opinion, more realistic.

Currently, you can hear a field dressing being torn open in the next room almost louder than a MP5 shot in that same room. Hence my suggestion. 8)

I think you will buy a earplugs for me :-D
Am play on max sound level to hear enemy movements,if something shoot near me - I will be deaf in a 5-10min.
I don't want to see deafness effect in RL.In my audio settlings - Shooting sound same as in RL,just turn more your sound settings.

yeah... this is something that needs to be outlined more. This isn't a simple issue. You have to consider the limits of the hardware, since Its more about modeling the "effects" of loudness then straight up recreating the exact volume relations. This is something I think BFBC2 did really well. Things such as artificial clipping, artificial "deafness" from loud explosions, etc. etc. So yeah, definitely something I think would be nice. But its a very difficult thing to model on such a massive scale, especially since its mainly a cosmetic feature (well from a audio standpoint). But yeah, a good idea, but most likely very low on the Developers priority list. There's bigger fish to fry right now (I seem to love that phrase lately)

I usually kept my effects volume on max because it was more "realistic".

But it gets annoying for gameplay when you gotta keep asking the SL or SM to repeat whatever he/she said. Spcially over mumble.
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

I think the weapons are pretty much on the max volume possible anyway.

The only way to increase the sound volume is if we lowered the sound volume even more, so people had to turn up there speakers more.

There is a limit to how loud you can make sounds in BF2 and we have reached it with our loudest sounds so unless you want an assault rifle to be the same volume as a JDAM exploding next to your head we really can't make the sounds any louder...

Yeah, I think the fact that I've never been made partially or fully deaf for any length of time by PR is a real downside :p

Sarcasm aside, I think that deafness effects and the like are much more reasonable than simply increasing weapons volume. I don't know if that's even possible in the BF2 engine, but IMO it's not really the weapon sounds that need increasing

PR is still a game and you can only really go so far. If you're going to make the in game sounds deafening, you'd need to give soldiers in game the option of wearing ear plugs. That probably isn't possible with BF2 engine and this really isn't necessary. Besides, almost everyone I know turns their in game sounds down anyway so that VOIP etc... can be heard.

Same here but my point is, you can't really turn the volume up for in-game VOIP from it's default value. You have to turn the effects down to effectively make VOIP louder relative to other sounds. Ya get me?

@ the OP more realistic sounds for weapons and the entire game turn on if you enable EAX (but you have to put your audio on High or very high),
but be careful since tracked APC will make your head explode, they are louder than choppers or airplanes or even the JDAM.

keep in mind that VOIP lowers ingame volume when someone presses the talk button so you can better hear them speaking, as well when someones Voip get stuck and constantly transmits, so does mumble if you havent turned down the little thingamabob in the options

Why dont we just all hook Guns to our computers so when ever you shoot ingame you get an actual bullet shot at you and to improve gameplay you get shot for real if you die ingame only one life dont Crash the Helicopter now! ITS PERFECT!

Image

.... But for all seriousness i take it that Rhino knows what he is saying its probly not going to be any louder than it already is now sadly.

I saw a lot of "Nope, can't be done/turn your speakers up" replies, but I gotta echo the suggestion. I've always played with max sound effect volume, and one thing I've noticed is that being inside vehicles is much, much louder than an AK firing off in full auto 2 feet away. This makes it difficult to communicate with the driver.

A lot of the gun sound effects are great, but because the level is so low they sound like they've got no balls to em.
