When I play project reality online i get these ridiculous lag spikes, every 10-20 seconds, no matter what server or graphical settings. I'll be flying a chopper (in cooperative) and suddenly the screen will freeze for maybe 2-4 seconds, the next thing i know I'm taking a nose dive. Lower setting do reduce loading time and lag a little bit, but nothing eliminates the problem. I recently (as in yesterday) updated video drivers, manually updated punkbuster, and I've run tons of virus scans with no results. Others games run fine and my hardware is definitely powerful enough. Games such as Crysis Warhead, Empire Total War, and Counter Strike run without issue, so I don't see how it can be a graphical problem. There shouldn't be an issue with my systems ability to handle the game. My connection seems fine (ping in low forties usually) and my connection to servers in vanilla battlefield is perfect with absolutely no lag on highest settings.
System Specs:
Windows 7 64-bit
Graphics Card:
ATI Radeon HD 5700
Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 Quad Core CPU 750 2.67GHz
Memory
2.00 GB (I keep forgetting to put the other supplementary 2 GB card in)
Hard Drive:
441 GB

Re: Inexplicable lag issues
I am assuming you are saying online coop... try a local game too. If taht issue persists its a performance problem, else it is probably a networking problem.
Anyways personally I do not consider 2GB on Win7 with PR as sufficient. Using ReadyBoost as RAM replacement might work for common tasks but I don't think it will be very efficient with games. You should rather get real RAM xD. (I am hitting ~4 GB RAM usage when playing PR on my Win7 x64).

Got a PROBLEM? Check this: PR:BF2 Installation Guide
Got a common QUESTION? check here first: PR:BF2 FAQ, MUMBLE FAQ

2 Gig is too weak. put 4 Gig in. which 5700 you have? The 5700 is a very weak serie. Play on low settings with this card.

Re: Inexplicable lag issues
It's an HD 5770 sorry. I added the other two Gigs and i'm gonna try running the game again, will edit with results.
EDIT: Everything is running perfect on highest setting, except for one big lag spike, but other players got it too so I think I'm fine. I guess it was a memory issue

Re: Inexplicable lag issues
The 5700 series is weak. The 5750 is like a 9800GT:
Test: ATi Radeon HD 5750 (Seite 6) - 24.10.2009 - ComputerBase
In BF2 the 5750 or 5770 is ok. Best frames. The 5730 not.
In PR you need a little more power on high..but we found the error, its was 2 gig ram.
